Personal Profile
Chen Jianmin, known by his art name "Shouren," with the studio name "Tianyi Studio," is Han Chinese, born in 1962. He has loved calligraphy and painting since childhood and many years ago became a disciple of Master Tian Yingzhang, from which point he began to diligently study calligraphy, starting with the model scripts of Ouyang Xun. The artistic merit and the ideological depth expressed in a work of calligraphy or painting are the primary factors in evaluating its value. True art should touch the soul, and true artists should use their hearts and brushstrokes to express the truth, goodness, and beauty of the world, promoting a positive and upward spirit, rather than merely catering to the market. In today’s evolving society, people need high-quality, high-level artworks with profound ideological foundations and cultural heritage.
Chen Jianmin’s calligraphy follows the tradition of the renowned calligrapher Master Tian Yingzhang, characterized by fluid brushwork, robust and unrestrained ink application, and a freely expressive, immersive style. His works combine boldness and vigor with a serene and tranquil atmosphere, forming a unique personal style that is endlessly varied yet appealing to both connoisseurs and the general public. Throughout this process, he has relied on self-study, continually making new discoveries and innovations.
Master Chen Jianmin’s calligraphy not only inherits and promotes the traditional art of calligraphy but also actively reflects the truth, goodness, and beauty of modern life. In the new era of reform and opening-up, whether in the expansion of thematic content or in the expression of artistic forms, he demonstrates his own distinctive understanding and application.
