Personal Profile

Ma Shirong, male, born in 1954, holds a university degree. He is a National First-Class Artist and one of the hundred eminent painters and calligraphers honored for the centenary of the Communist Party of China. Currently, he is a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, a member of the Hebei Provincial Calligraphers Association, a researcher at the Hebei Provincial Academy of Sinology, Calligraphy and Painting Art, and a researcher at the Hebei Famous Artists Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute. His calligraphy works have been appraised at RMB 5,000 per square foot. Having served 15 years in the military, he was awarded honorary titles by the military region. He has worked for 30 years in local administrative roles and was named a Provincial Model Worker. Since childhood, he has had a deep passion for calligraphy and has practiced diligently for over 40 years, studying the styles of Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi, Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, Liu Gongquan, and Zhao Mengfu. He specializes primarily in Ouyang-style and Zhao-style regular script, drawing inspiration from ancient masters while developing his own unique style. His regular script integrates the strengths of various schools, characterized by rigorous structure, balanced proportions, and sharp, forceful strokes. The composition is orderly and precise, with tightly packed central strokes and elongated primary strokes, creating an atmosphere of dynamic momentum. The spacing between elements is skillfully varied—both dense and open—achieving harmony on all sides, with vivid energy and perfect balance. The strokes and structural arrangements embody strength within stability, forming a distinctive personal style. He is a renowned master of the orthodox tradition, known for his profound technical mastery; his works hold significant collector’s value. His calligraphy pieces have been repeatedly published in media outlets and are frequently collected by renowned individuals and enterprises both domestically and internationally. He has won first prizes and gold medals numerous times in national calligraphy and painting competitions.
