Chen Yuguan, also known as Chen Weigan. Styled Dongyi, and called himself "Ink Guest of Jiangnan" and "Man beneath the Northern Hills." His studios are named "Yanpan Studio" and "Jihui Hall Master." He is a calligrapher, calligraphy educator, and psychologist. Born in August 1969, he has been passionately fond of calligraphy since childhood and won numerous calligraphy competitions during his school years. He has maintained his enthusiasm for calligraphy throughout his life, practicing diligently for decades without interruption, mastering all major script styles with particular excellence in regular script (kaishu). He graduated from the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, studying under Professor Zhang Xuguang. He furthered his studies successively at the China Academy of Art, Tian Yunzhang’s mentorship program at the School of Fine Arts at Nankai University, the Advanced Calligraphy Training Program at Shenzhen Arts College, the Calligraphy Training Center of the China Calligraphers Association, the Sixth National Advanced Training Program for Hard-Pen Calligraphy Core Teachers, and the Wenzhou Radio and Television Opera and Calligraphy Training Program.
Currently, he serves as Vice President of the China Guoyi Calligraphy and Painting Academy, specially appointed calligraphy instructor at the Guoyi Calligraphy Training Center, member of the Chinese Society of Education, member of the Education Committee of the Wenzhou Calligraphers Association, one of the first volunteer calligraphy instructors dispatched for the “Building a Book-Reading Society, Ink-Fragrant Wenzhou” initiative, Vice Chairman of the Pingyang County Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association, Director of the Hengyang Calligraphy and Painting Academy of Pingyang County, Secretary-General of the Kuifeng Calligraphy and Painting Academy of Pingyang County, specially appointed researcher of the Running Script Committee at the Bingnan Academy of Calligraphy, member of the Cangnan County Calligraphers Association, member of the Pingyang County Calligraphers Association, member of the Longgang City Calligraphers Association, and Senior Trainer for the Ministry of Education’s Calligraphy Proficiency Examination. He is also a specially appointed calligraphy teacher at Longgang No. 8 Primary School, Bacao No. 2 Primary School, and Longgang Youth Palace.
In 2013, he was awarded the title of “Annual Outstanding Teacher for Standardized Character Writing” by the Schooling Guidance Center of the China Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association.
In 2018, he was awarded the title of “Annual Outstanding Teacher” by the China Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association.
In 2015, he received the title of “Advanced Individual” from the County and District Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association Liaison Meeting of Zhejiang Province.
His calligraphy thesis won the Silver Award at the 24th Zhejiang Provincial Calligraphy Academic Symposium and was included in the symposium’s published proceedings. His works have been exhibited in the “Mo Chi Award” First Wenzhou Calligraphy and Seal Carving Competition; he has repeatedly won major national calligraphy competitions and has received first prizes in numerous national hard-pen calligraphy contests. His works have been collected by museums both domestically and internationally.
The Moting Calligraphy Training School, founded by Mr. Chen Yuguan in 2010, is the most professional calligraphy training institution in Longgang and Aojiang. Moting Calligraphy Training School has been honored as “Top Ten National Calligraphy Education Schools,” “Top 100 Institutions of the National Calligraphy Education Alliance,” “Member Unit of the Chinese Society of Education,” “Designated Training Base of the China Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association,” and “Calligraphy College Entrance Examination Training School jointly established by the China Calligraphy Industry Research Institute and Hangzhou Zheyi Calligraphy and Painting Academy.” Mr. Chen Yuguan himself has been awarded “Top Ten National Calligraphy Education Principals” and “Top Ten Annual Influential Figures in the Chinese Hard-Pen Calligraphy Circle.”
Moting Calligraphy Training has specialized in calligraphy education for 21 years, offering two major categories of artistic training: brush calligraphy and hard-pen calligraphy.
