Guo Xinmin, styled as Fangshan Yishi (Tian Cheng), was born in 1959 in Dongyang, Zhejiang, and is a member of the Communist Party of China.
Influenced by an artistic environment since childhood, he attended correspondence courses in calligraphy, painting, and advertising design in Shanghai and Shaoxing during the 1980s. Later, he received guidance and inspiration from masters such as Sun Dayu, a calligrapher of the Chinese Calligraphers Association; Han Zhiping, President of Hangzhou Xizi Painting Academy; and Hu Lixin, President of the Chinese National Painting and Calligraphy Academy. His brush and hard-pen calligraphy have progressively reached an exquisite realm. For decades, Guo Xinmin has persistently practiced calligraphy, ceaselessly pursuing innovation—his brushwork is unrestrained, rhythmically dynamic, and full of expressive vitality, with strokes that alternately converge and diverge. His mastery of regular script, cursive script, clerical script, and seal script each possesses distinctive styles, earning widespread admiration and acclaim. His theoretical writings on calligraphy have been presented at multiple provincial and municipal academic symposia. His artworks have been collected by calligraphy and painting enthusiasts from all walks of society and have won awards in national and regional exhibitions and competitions.
He won First Prize in the inaugural "Huayun Cup" National Calligraphy and Painting Competition, Silver Prize in the 18th National "Lushan Cup" Competition, was selected for the Third National "Yidao Yaji" Cup Hard-Pen Calligraphy Award, and received Second Prize in the "Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China—Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition." He currently serves as a member of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, Zhejiang Provincial Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association, Dongyang Calligraphers Association, an academician of the Shaanxi Huanglou Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Shidong Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, and Jiangnan Calligraphy and Painting Academy.
