Personal Profile
Wang Lusheng, master of Shigu Mountain House, a mountain dweller from Chang'an. Born in 1952 in Meiwu, he has been deeply influenced by Neo-Confucian philosophy. Since childhood, he has studied under Master Li Jinglin, drawing inspiration from ancient traditions to cultivate his character and nurture his spirit. For many years, he has cultivated his nature, refined his virtue, and perfected his art through the heart of Buddha, kindness, and perseverance.
Initially entering the world of ink, he gradually reached a higher realm; he meticulously studied the calligraphic styles of the Two Wangs and the masters of Ming and Qing dynasties, absorbing their essence; he extensively explored Wei steles and Han clerical script, as well as the Stone Drum inscriptions and calligraphic manuals. He writes to express his inner feelings, wielding his brush with freedom and spontaneity, seeking delight through impromptu creation. He pursues the spiritual resonance of ancient masters while absorbing the finest elements of contemporary masters. After more than fifty years of dedicated study and deep exploration of calligraphy, his work is ethereal yet not frivolous, solemn yet not rigid. Aware of emptiness and embracing darkness, he drifts among dots and lines in the sea of ink, seeking his own self.
In his youth, his family was poor, and he often used twigs as brushes to experience the technique of "cone drawing on sand," diligently memorizing and reciting ancient calligraphy models, regardless of the changing seasons, never ceasing his brushwork. "The road is long and arduous; I shall seek high and low." In the 1990s, he participated in a correspondence course taught by Master Zhou Junjie’s advanced calligraphy seminar, gaining profound insights. He has repeatedly participated in international and domestic painting and calligraphy competitions, winning numerous awards. His calligraphic theories have been published in specialized monographs, and his works have been featured in dedicated publications. His ink traces and seals have been presented as gifts to international friends... and he has been honored with the title of "Most Promising Calligrapher and Painter in Asia," among others.
With a college diploma and a deputy senior professional title, now over sixty, he remains relentless. His creation, "The Picture of Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity," embodies the imagery of a child paying homage to longevity, featuring unique artistic effects in its character forms, and has been granted a national patent certificate.
Currently, he is a member of the Shaanxi Branch of the China Calligraphers Association, Vice President of the Qiyang Seal Society, member of the Shaanxi Provincial Federation of Workers’ Literary and Art Circles and council member of the Shaanxi Calligraphers Association, Vice Chairman of the Baoji City Workers’ Calligraphers Association, Deputy Secretary-General of the International Chinese Calligraphers Association, Senior Calligraphy Master, Consultant for China Masters of Art Newspaper, Art Consultant for the China International Modern Art Research Center, and Chairman of the Baoguang Painting and Calligraphy Association, among others. In 2012, his works were included in the "Great Compendium of New China Fine Arts (Calligraphy Volume)."
