Wu Fansong, male, a member of the Communist Party of China, known by his studio name "Yanmo Zhai," was born in 1990 in the ancient city of Xi’an. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts and is now acclaimed by the art community as the “Young Peony King of Xi’an,” particularly renowned for his golden-line peony paintings.
Since childhood, he has been deeply influenced by his grandfather and developed a passionate love for calligraphy and painting. In recent years, he has persistently practiced brushwork, studied the styles of various calligraphers, and explored the pathways of ancient and modern calligraphic art through diligent practice and reflection. His calligraphy training focuses primarily on the small seal script of Deng Shiru (Wanbaishanren), while also studying the Cao Quan Stele and Wang Xizhi’s Orchid Pavilion Preface. He has broad interests, encompassing badminton, calligraphy, writing, and oratory arts. He has published over a hundred works of calligraphy, literature, and news briefs in newspapers and magazines such as Xi’an Evening News, Contemporary Youth, and Bo’ai Magazine.
In 2017, his calligraphy and painting works were selected by China Post and China Telecom for inclusion in the limited-edition commemorative postage stamp collection titled “Stay True to Our Original Aspiration and Keep Marching Forward,” issued nationwide to celebrate the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He is currently a Level-One Calligrapher and Painter of the People’s Artistic Artists Association, a member of the Shaanxi Calligraphers Association, a member of the Shaanxi Artists Association, a member of the Shaanxi Couplets Society, a council member of the Shengtang Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute of Xi’an, and a specially appointed calligrapher and painter of Basha Calligraphy and Painting Academy.
His masterpiece, “Flowers in Full Bloom, Wealth and Honor,” a golden-line peony painting, has been collected and displayed by the Hong Kong Legislative Council and the Chinese Embassy in Russia. Several of his calligraphy and painting works have been collected or compiled by numerous literary and artistic friends, enterprises, institutions, and enthusiasts both domestically and internationally. He has won over a hundred honors at national, provincial, municipal, and district-level competitions in calligraphy, painting, and essay contests.
