Personal Profile
Wang Jue, pen name Chenghan, male, born in 1970, is a native of Shanghai. He is currently a member of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, a member of the Minhang Branch of the Shanghai Artists Association, a member of the Songjiang Artists Association of Shanghai, and a specially appointed painter of the Shanghai Cross-Strait Painting and Calligraphy Art Exchange Association. He is especially skilled in painting horses. After years of in-depth research and devotion to brush and ink, he has never ceased practicing. He has extracted the essence of Xu Beihong's horse paintings and innovated, forming his own style. He spends his days with horses and is now one of the well-known painters of horses in China. He always keeps in mind Xu Beihong's famous words: "Learn from the horse" and "Be broad-minded and meticulous", using "Shi Ma Xuan" as his studio name. He pursues lively and spiritual brushwork, vivid yet rigorous forms. Some works are only a few strokes, yet thought-provoking, and are widely popular and loved by people.
His calligraphy starts with the seal script, clerical script of the Qin and Han dynasties, and northern stele inscriptions, and also involves the cursive and running scripts of various masters from the Ming and Qing dynasties. After many years of study and copying of ancient masterpieces, he also applies calligraphy to painting, excelling in freehand Chinese paintings of flowers and birds, occasionally painting landscapes, and his works emphasize artistic conception.
Painter Hou Fei commented: "Wang Jue's works pursue lively and spiritual brushwork, with vivid and rigorous forms, some of which are only a few strokes, yet thought-provoking."
His works have participated in various art exhibitions multiple times, and some have won awards and are collected.
