Zan Xianshan, male, Han nationality, born in 1963, holds a university degree from Hohhot Normal School, and has been dedicated to art education in primary and secondary schools. He is currently a Academician of the China Academy of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, a Council Member of the China National Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, InnerMongolia Calligraphers Association member, Inner Mongolia Law Society Academy of Painting and Calligraphy Academician, Hohhot Calligraphers Association member, Hohhot Artists Association member, Chairman of the Saihan District Calligraphers Association of Hohhot, and Visiting Professor at Inner Mongolia Agricultural University.
Since the 1980s, Mr. Zan Xianshan has devoted himself to theoretical research and skill training in fine arts and calligraphy. He studied under watercolor master Chen Haigen and oil painting master Yi Jing, and participated in six training sessions at the Training Center of the China Calligraphers Association, receiving guidance and authentic instruction from renowned artists such as Zhang Shigang, Liu Hongbiao, and Zhang Xuguang. For over thirty years, Mr. Zan has persisted with unwavering dedication, continuously innovating and reforming, developing unique insights and notable achievements in calligraphy and painting. Building upon the inheritance and promotion of existing Chinese calligraphy and painting traditions, he has persistently explored paths for innovation and development, boldly breaking away from conventional folk writing styles to return calligraphy to its ancient roots and classical heritage. Taking Wang Xizhi’s calligraphic models as his foundation, he diligently studies them, using the distinctive perspectives of Su Shi and Mi Fu in calligraphy as his guiding mentors to meticulously explore the essence of Wang Xizhi’s art.
Mr. Zan Xianshan perseveres tirelessly, studying diligently and practicing assiduously, constantly seeking higher realms. His works innovate and develop while honoring tradition and upholding classics, forging a uniquely personal path in painting and calligraphy. In recent years, Mr. Zan’s artworks have stood out among middle-aged and young artists, gaining increasing popularity among the general public and earning unanimous recognition from professionals and experts.
