Li Weihua, from Loudi, Hunan, is known by the art names Yihua and Hanlin Zimo, and his studio is named Tang. He graduated from the School of Arts and Crafts in 1989. His dignified, elegant, and lively regular script is the result of more than twenty years of intensive study of the masterpieces of Yan Zhenqing, Chu Suiliang, and Ouyang Xun; his running script draws widely from diverse sources, inspired by the high standards of the Tang and Song dynasties and reaching back to the spirit of the Wei and Jin periods, with particular focus on the styles of Wang Xizhi, Mi Fu, and Shen Yinmo—his works are graceful, refined, and freely expressive, forming a distinctive personal style; his cursive script shows the deepest dedication to Sun Guoting’s “Shupu.” For over thirty years, he has been deeply devoted to calligraphy, continuously seeking guidance from masters, exchanging ideas with fellow artists, and never ceasing to practice, while maintaining humility, calmness, and modesty, dedicating half his life to emulating the styles of past masters.
He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers Association; Hunan Provincial Calligraphers Association; Loudi City Calligraphers Association; Council Member of the Singapore Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute; Member of the Boyue Poetry Society in Lengshuijiang; Director of the Hunan Mingtang Calligraphy Academy; and a member of the Chinese Couplets Association, among others. His works have won awards in numerous international and domestic calligraphy competitions and have been exhibited in touring shows; many of his pieces have been collected by calligraphy enthusiasts, celebrities, entrepreneurs, and art institutions both at home and abroad.
In 2018, he was named one of the most collectible and noteworthy artists by World Art Network.
