Shi Guiyan, born in 1974 in Jilin Da'an. She experienced many hardships in childhood and became a nun at the age of 16, taking refuge at Chengjian Hall in Fujian Xianyou, “receiving ordination at Shanghai Fashan Nunnery, with Venerable Ti Sheng as her preceptor.” She took the Dharma name Shi Miaodu. From 1998, she furthered her studies at the Buddhist College of Chongfu Temple in Fuzhou, and later traveled to study at temples in Shanghai, Zhejiang Taizhou, and other places. In 2011, she returned to secular life and devoted herself entirely to calligraphy and painting creation. She is currently Chairman of the China Art Masters Association, Senior Artistic Master of the China Calligraphy and Painting Creation Academy, Lifetime Researcher of the Oriental Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Member of the Hong Kong Artists Association, Specialized Painter of the China National Art Institute's Painting Academy, and a State Level One Artistic Master. She now resides in Beijing.
