Personal Profile
Chang Xiaoguang, pen name Runwu, was born in 1979 in Jilin City, Jilin Province. From childhood, he has been fascinated by landscape poetry, paintings, and pastoral scenery, hoping to appreciate the beauty of natural landscapes and experience the transcendent artistic conceptions conveyed through art. In 2002, he had the good fortune to meet the renowned knife-and-brush oil painter Mr. Lin Baojun, and was deeply attracted by Mr. Lin's unique artistic expression and masterful knife painting techniques that vividly portrayed magnificent and beautiful rural landscapes. With sincere dedication to learning, Chang was fortunate enough to become one of Mr. Lin’s earliest direct disciples. Since then, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to studying and creating knife paintings. Under his teacher's guidance and through persistent personal effort, he gradually developed a fresh, elegant, and profoundly expressive artistic style. His works present a distinctive aesthetic blending "oil-color Chinese painting," combining the rich texture of oil painting with the profound, lingering charm of traditional Chinese painting. Whether depicting towering peaks and rocky cliffs or dense forests and misty veils, his paintings demonstrate unique mastery—especially in portraying cascading waterfalls and flowing streams, which appear majestic, dynamic, and lifelike, like sweet dew moistening the heart, refreshing and delightful.
His work "Clear Mountains and Beautiful Waters" won the gold award at the 2019 First Contemporary Art Award National Painting and Calligraphy Competition.
His work "Mountains in Clouds and Mist" won first prize at the 2019 "Ink Sea, Original Heart" National Poetry, Painting, Calligraphy, and Seal Carving Competition.
His work "Rhythmic Water and Majestic Landscapes" won the painting gold award at the 2019 First "Lingnan Cup" Global Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition.
He is currently a member of the China Arts and Crafts Society, a member of the Jilin City Artists Association, and Honorary President of Dongguan JinYang Academy of Painting and Calligraphy.
