Personal Profile
Lin Zhiyuan (born 1956), also known as Ye Jianping, styled Banxi, and with the sobriquets Shimen Mountain Hermit, Huanglong Mountain Man, and Cold Fragrance Recluse. A native of Zhejiang Wenzhou, he excels in calligraphy and painting, loves poetry and seal carving, and is well-versed in music. Having lived in seclusion in the mountains for over a decade, he formerly served as an executive member of several regional calligraphy and painting associations. He is currently a member of the Chinese Prose Society, a research fellow at the Guangxi Institute of Culture and History, an academician of the Guangxi Institute of Culture and History’s Calligraphy and Painting Academy, an academician of the Guangxi CPPCC Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and an advisory professor at Wenzhou University. He has served as a deputy to the Second People’s Congress of Guilin City and as a member of the Third, Fourth, and Fifth CPPCC Committees of Guilin. On May 18, 2007, he held a solo exhibition of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving at Beijing Rongbaozhai, achieving widespread fame with this exhibition. Subsequently, he held solo exhibitions of poetry, calligraphy, painting, and seal carving at the Shaanxi Provincial Art Museum and Renmin University of China, followed by dozens of lectures and solo exhibitions across the country. He was selected for inclusion in the book “Top Ten Contemporary Chinese Landscape Painters,” published by China Nationalities Publishing House. His published works include “Selected Masterpieces of Lin Zhiyuan’s Calligraphy and Painting,” “Collected Works of Cold Fragrance,” “The Recluse Lin Zhiyuan,” “Poems of Cold Fragrance,” and “Contemporary Chinese Art Masters · Lin Zhiyuan.” His works have been published in major national media outlets and featured multiple times in publications of the People’s Daily.
