Personal Profile
Shao Li, also known by his pseudonyms Qu Lu and Shi Pu, was born in 1964 in Yongkang, Zhejiang. He graduated in 1987 from the History Department of Zhejiang Normal University. During his university years, he began studying under the renowned calligraphers and painters Mr. Jin Jiancai and Mr. Shi Mingde, and later became a disciple of the celebrated bird-and-flower painter Mr. He Shuifa. His orchid paintings embody both scholarly elegance and wild vitality, harmoniously unified—precisely as the saying goes, "Only when refinement and substance are balanced can one become a true gentleman." His peonies, a subject often considered both refined and vulgar, are rendered with scholarly grace and unrestrained vigor, which constitutes a major hallmark of his style. He also serves as a teacher of Chinese traditional culture at Zhejiang University, possessing profound scholarly cultivation, broad knowledge, depth within, and expressive freedom without. Consequently, his painting and calligraphy skills continuously improve, revealing boundless potential. He has successfully held multiple solo exhibitions, and his works are widely collected.
