Wang Sheng
Personal Profile
Wang Sheng, styled "Mo Fang Zhai," was born in Wenzhou City in 1956 and holds a college diploma. He began working in 1973 and entered the Wenzhou Public Security Bureau in 1979, successively serving as police officer, police station chief, office director, discipline inspection commission secretary, political commissar, and deputy director of the Political Department of the Municipal Public Security Bureau. Currently, he serves as Deputy Researcher of the Municipal Bureau and Vice Chairman of the Literary and Art Federation, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association, Vice President of the China Famous Artists Research Institute, member of the Zhejiang Calligraphers Association, and Deputy Secretary-General of the CPPCC Calligraphy Academy. Since childhood, he has been diligent and studious; his father imposed strict discipline and his elder brother closely supervised him, enabling his healthy growth. During adolescence, he loved sports and was especially passionate about basketball, once being a member of Wenzhou’s Youth Basketball Team (currently Chairman of the Wenzhou Basketball Association). In the early 1980s, he became fascinated with calligraphy and initially focused on imitation. Due to his demanding career as a police officer—with heavy official duties and numerous responsibilities—he could only pursue self-study during spare moments, squeezing time for casual writing, copying classical calligraphy models, and learning from fellow enthusiasts. Meanwhile, he received guidance from renowned calligraphy masters, and over time, gradually improved. Through more than 30 years of dedicated practice, humble learning, and persistent training, he not only elevated his artistic level and aesthetic realm in calligraphy but also strengthened and perfected his personal cultivation. In recent years, his personal calligraphy works have been exhibited in Shanghai, Huzhou, Chongqing, Shaoxing, Wenzhou, and other locations, and he has held solo exhibitions abroad in Singapore, France, Spain, and other countries. He has also published four collected volumes through the China Academy of Art and Zhejiang People's Fine Arts Publishing House: “Calligraphy Collection of Wang Sheng” (“Mo Fang Zhai: Calligraphy Collection of Wang Sheng,” “Mo Fang Zhai Calligraphy Works Collection”), and “Series of One Hundred Collections by One Hundred Calligraphers of Wenzhou,” all receiving unanimous praise both domestically and internationally. His long-scroll calligraphy works, including “Former and Latter Chu Shi Biao,” “Thousand Character Classic,” and “Yandang Mountain Record,” won First Prize at the “China Famous Artists Grand Competition” hosted by the Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association and the China Famous Artists Research Institute, and are now collected by the Engels Museum in Germany and the Jiuchao Huibao Museum in Fujian Province, China. Meanwhile, he was also awarded the title of “Art Ambassador” by the Organizing Committee of the China International Reportage Literature Research Association and the “Beautiful China” large-scale event.
