Personal Profile
Yan Xiazhi was born in Tianjin, and his ancestral home is Wen'an County, Hebei Province. He has been interested in calligraphy and painting since childhood, influenced by his family.
In 1979, he started working in the Science and Technology Commission of Hangu District, Tianjin City, responsible for science popularization publicity among young people. He painted a large number of science popularization posters, and began to study Chinese landscape painting. The painter Wang Xilin, his fellow townsman, often gave him small landscape works. He treasured them and studied and copied them diligently, copying many works of Wang Xilin, which laid a solid foundation for his later study of traditional Chinese landscape painting.
In 1982, he was transferred to the Beijing Railway Bureau to work in management, but he still persisted in learning, practiced basic skills, learned from the strengths of many masters, and adhered to the concept of inheriting tradition. He drew experience from ancient people and constantly enriched himself. First, he insisted on promoting and inheriting Chinese traditional culture. Second, his works were characterized by freshness and elegance, mainly using light ink washes. Third, the artistic conception is the soul of painting. For decades, he has continuously explored and improved in painting, gradually forming his unique style. Painting has no end; this road is still long, and he will continue to go forward, pursuing new heights and creating new works.
