Author Profile: Wang Chao, originally named Wang Jichao, is a renowned Chinese painter and poet. He was born in Tianjin in 1939, and graduated from the Department of Chinese Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1963. He studied under teachers such as Li Ke Ran, Li Ku Chan, Jiang Zhaohe, Ye Qianyu, Liu Lingcang, Wu Zuoren, Zong Qixiang, Tian Shiguang, Yu Zhizhen, etc.
Currently, he is a professor at the Training College of Renmin University, a mentor for advanced study programs, a member of the China Artists Association, a member of the River and Mountain Painting Society of the China Artists Association, a member of the China Writers Association, a consultant of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, president of the Wang Chao Art Gallery in Tianjin, and a former professor at the Tianjin Institute of Arts and Crafts. He is also a member of the Art Committee of the "20th Century Artworks National Archives" of the Ministry of Culture. He is an art advisor for the CCTV Network. A great master who established his own school of painting.
He became famous in the 1960s and 1970s for his landscape paintings, flower and bird paintings, and figure paintings. In the early 1980s, he created fable paintings, peonies, and elephants, developing his own unique style. His peonies often carry profound meanings, emphasizing originality within simplicity, pursuing the vigor of the Han and Wei dynasties and the elegance of the Jin and Tang dynasties, with an extraordinary spirit.
He has held "Wang Chao Poetry and Painting Exhibition" at the China Art Museum, the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the China Museum of Modern Literature, the Liaoning Provincial Museum, and in cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Yantai, Shenzhen, Qingdao, etc. He has participated in many major exhibitions both domestically and internationally. His works are collected by numerous cultural and museum institutions and collectors at home and abroad.
His work "The Majestic Wind" was displayed in the central hall of the Tiananmen Gate Tower. The painting "Tranquility" is included in the "Comprehensive Collection of Chinese Painting". In 1983, he published "Selected Works of Wang Chao", in 1999 he published "Research on Wang Chao", in 2005 he published "Selected Poems of the Chinese Spirit", in 2009 he published "Calligraphy Collection of Wang Chao", "Selected Freehand Peonies of Wang Chao", "Academic School Series - Wang Chao", "60 Masters of Red Flag Painting - Wang Chao Special Issue", and in 2010 he published "Wang Chao's Art Collection", etc.
