Wang Liping, pen name: Jingxin, female, Han ethnicity, born in 1959, from Ningwu County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. She began working in April 1974 and previously served as a Chief Nurse at Ningwu County People’s Hospital with an intermediate professional title. Currently, she is a Academician of the Shanghai Branch of the China Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, an Academician of the Beijing Huaxia Lanting Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, a Senior Research Fellow of the Lushan Mao-style Calligraphy Research Institute, and a Council Member of the Beijing Contemporary Academy of Calligraphy and Painting.
Since childhood, I have had a deep passion for calligraphy, diligently practicing under the influence of my father without ever slackening—thus forming an unbreakable bond with calligraphy! Over the years, despite constant practice and frequently writing medical advertisements during my work, my calligraphic skills still require further improvement, and I sincerely long to find a master to guide me. Fortunately, I later became a disciple of Mr. Ji Huaiyu, a Chinese National Gift Art Artist, National First-Class Fine Arts Artist, and renowned Mao-style calligrapher, finally realizing my dream and pursuit! Since beginning my study of calligraphy, I have earnestly copied classical models and persisted tirelessly. I have developed a special interest in Mao-style calligraphy and frequently attend artistic events related to calligraphy organized by other institutions and communities.
Since becoming a student of Master Ji Huaiyu, his rigorous standards and patient, meticulous instruction have left a profound impression on me. Under Master Ji’s gentle guidance and earnest teachings, my Mao-style calligraphy has made significant progress. Master Ji often tells me and his students: “Calligraphy is an art form that integrates aesthetics and technique, theory and practice—it represents a high-level realm of artistic refinement, especially Mao-style calligraphy! On the path of calligraphy, one must extensively copy the master’s script, combine insight with practice, and harmonize strokes and structure. One must not fear monotony or solitude, but rather strengthen one’s aesthetic sensibility!” Master Ji’s brushwork is fluid and dynamic, majestic and powerful, fresh and elegant, vigorous and forceful, naturally composed, with both roundness and angularity. Whenever I see my teacher’s exquisite works, I am deeply captivated. I aspire to take my teacher as my role model, persistently strive to master Mao-style calligraphy, and carry forward Chairman Mao’s calligraphic legacy!
In June 2018, at the 9th Xizhi Huai National Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Competition: My Mao-style calligraphy work won the Second Prize, awarded at the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Hall!
In June 2018, my Mao-style calligraphy work received the Silver Award at the “Hanmo Zhonghua Guocui Classic – Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up: Contemporary Chinese Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Exhibition.” The award-winning piece, alongside works by invited masters and generals, will be exhibited in Beijing, Singapore, Indonesia, and Russia. My personal profile and artwork have been included in the anthology “Great Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Masters of Hanmo,” and I was awarded a Certificate of Collection, enshrined in history!
In September 2018, my Mao-style calligraphy work won the Bronze Award at the “Stay True to Our Original Aspiration and Keep Our Mission Firmly in Mind” 2nd National Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition, and was displayed at the Kaifeng City Civic Center in October 2018, accompanied by live online streaming.
In September 2018, my Mao-style calligraphy was exhibited at the “As Cup” National Masters’ Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition commemorating the 125th anniversary of Chairman Mao’s birth and the 42nd anniversary of his passing, held at the Gansu Provincial Retired Cadres Activity Center.
In September 2018, I won the Silver Award at the 18th National “Lushan Cup” Poetry, Calligraphy, and Painting Competition.
In September 2018, my Mao-style calligraphy won the Gold Award at the “Moving Toward a New Era: National Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting, and Photography Competition.”
For establishing exemplary models in calligraphy and painting art and promoting the vitality and influence of fine traditional Chinese culture, I was honored in 2018 as a “Contemporary Figure in the Inheritance of Calligraphy Art” and included in the Honor Roll.
In October 2018, I was specially invited to participate in the China Calligraphy and Painting Masters’ Masterpieces Exhibition at the Louvre Museum in France, and was awarded the “Special Artistic Achievement Award at the Louvre Museum China Calligraphy and Painting Masters’ Invitational Exhibition,” along with bilingual (Chinese-English) Certificate of Collection. My work was publicly featured on the official website’s “Featured Masters of the Louvre Museum China Calligraphy and Painting Invitational Exhibition” section prior to October 28, 2018. In 2018, I also won the Bronze Award at the inaugural “Hanmo Dangan” National Calligraphy and Painting Competition, joined Renmin Literature Network, and became a member of the Encyclopedia of Calligraphers and Painters. I am now listed as a “Leading Figure in Contemporary Art, 2018 Edition.”
