Wang Qi, born in the Bingwu year, hails from Shenyang, Liaoning. His courtesy name is Qizhi, and his art name is Dake Shanren, master of Dake Painting Society. He has loved painting since childhood, with a particular passion for Chinese landscape painting. In 1983, he enlisted in the military and worked in the political department’s film projection team, where he was recommended to attend the military region’s fine arts creation class for systematic study of Chinese landscape painting. Later, he participated in an adult correspondence course in Chinese landscape painting. His works integrate classical techniques with modern elements, emphasizing profound conception and vital rhythm, and he has developed a comprehensive expressive technique centered on ink wash. His brushwork is dominated by outlining, hatching, dotting, and staining, excelling in the depiction of structure and texture; his ink technique is primarily based on the variations of ink density, dryness, and wetness, employing splashing, breaking, layering, and baking to achieve effects such as “water-blended ink patterns” and “like combining five colors.” He has participated multiple times in exhibitions organized by corporate systems, the Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and provincial and municipal art exhibitions, with his works receiving numerous awards and widespread acclaim. He is currently a National First-Class Artisan, a member of the China Mao-style Calligraphers Association, an advisor to the Hubei Red Art Creation Base, a member of the China Landscape Painting Association, a member of the Shanxi Provincial Artists Association, a council member of the Houma City Artists Association, and director of the Landscape Painting Committee. He is also a specially appointed artist at the Ningxia Lijing Calligraphy and Painting Academy and a specially appointed artist at the Shanxi Calligraphy and Painting Academy.
