Dong Jianghai, artistic name Jianghai, courtesy name Taiyu; alias San Taizi; art name Lotus Hermit; painter, calligrapher, and art critic, known for his quintessential literati painting style. He studied calligraphy under Chen Ximing and figure painting under Li Xueming. Born in March 1966 in Zhang Village, Beijing Township, Linyi County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province. Graduated from Yuncheng Business School in 1989. Station Director of the Calligraphy Daily; Tutor at the Hunan Liuhexueguo Academy; Teaching Assistant at Tsinghua University’s Training Center National Advanced Research Class in Fine Art Theory and Painting & Calligraphy Creation! (Awarded Outstanding Teaching Assistant by Tsinghua University in 2020). Artistic Achievements:
In 1989, his calligraphy and painting works, ranked first, represented the Yuncheng region in the First Shanxi Province (College, Middle, and Vocational) Campus Culture Festival (jointly organized by the Communist Youth League Shanxi Provincial Committee, Shanxi Student Union, Shanxi Education Commission, Shanxi Cultural Bureau, and Shanxi Radio & Television Bureau). In 1992, his work was selected for the Second Xinghua Cup Calligraphy Competition, hosted by the Chinese Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association. In 1993, his calligraphy work won second prize in the Youth Group of the First Shanxi Province ‘Hope Cup’ Youth Calligraphy and Painting Competition. From 1990 to 1995, he was seconded to the Yuncheng City (Yanhu District) Federation of Literary and Art Circles to engage exclusively in calligraphy and painting creation. In 1993, commissioned by the Yuncheng Municipal Government (Yanhu District Government), he traveled to Beijing to visit renowned artists Dong Shouping, Liu Bingsen, Liu Zhengcheng, Wang Jingfen, Yang Lizhou, Li Qi, and Zou Dezhong, and presided over the planning of the National Guan Gong Cultural Art Calligraphy and Painting Competition. From 1995 to 2005, he spent ten years in business. During this period, he obtained certification as a Registered Senior Brewmaster; served as a member of the First Technical Committee on Chen Vinegar under the National Condiment Standardization Technical Committee; as a Standing Director of the Shanxi Vinegar Industry Association; and as an Executive Committee Member of the Yuncheng City Federation of Industry and Commerce. In 2008, his work was selected for the First Yongle Palace International Calligraphy and Painting Art Festival in Ruicheng, China. In 2009, his work won second prize in the Exhibition of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Masters Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 2010, his work was selected for the ‘Guan Gong Cup’ National Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. From 2009 to 2013, he successfully planned and organized nationwide public welfare lecture tours featuring renowned calligraphers Chen Ximing, Zeng Xiang, and others, gaining nationwide influence. Since 2009, he has published dozens of academic papers online, attracting widespread attention within the calligraphy and painting community and receiving positive feedback from netizens. In 2012, he was appointed Teaching Assistant at Tsinghua University’s Academy of Fine Arts Training Center National Advanced Research Class in Fine Art Theory and Painting & Calligraphy Creation. In 2013, he successfully planned the ‘Chang Shaolou Cup’ National Calligraphy and Painting Competition commemorating the 120th Anniversary of Mao Zedong’s Birth in Hunan.
