Personal Profile
Long Zefei, courtesy name Jingye, was born at the foot of Zhongnan Mountain. He received early启蒙 in landscape painting from his grandfather at the age of three, and later developed a deep affection for ink lotus paintings. Over decades, he traveled extensively seeking reclusive wisdom and visiting mountain temples, gradually cultivating an aura of serenity and elegance, and forming close friendships with eminent Zen monks. In 1998, he furthered his studies at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. In June 2000, he was fortunate to receive profound guidance from the great scholar of Chinese culture, Master Nan Huaijin, after which he devoted himself primarily to Zen-inspired, tranquil ink lotus art.
He is currently a researcher at the Art Research Institute of the China Association for the Protection of Minorities' Cultural Relics.
Recommended collaborating artist with the Contemporary Artists Network.
Long Zefei’s ink lotus paintings are vivid and expressive. His compositions are well-balanced and dynamic. The lotus leaves are rendered with bold ink washes, where tonal variations flow freely and naturally; the lotus stems stand upright with slender strength. Technically, he fully exploits the wet-on-wet ink technique. Though the image appears created with only a few simple strokes, the work feels ethereal yet not constrained, rich in lingering resonance and imbued with deep Zen spirit.
