Personal Profile
Contemporary Chinese Master Calligrapher and Painter — Yang Zhizhong
Currently a senior researcher at the Chinese Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, a National First-Class Artist, President of the Chinese Traditional Culture Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, Art Director of Mo Ming Xuan Cultural and Art Center. Member of China National Art Website, Vice Chairman of the World Association of Chinese Overseas Chinese Artists, and Recommended National Gift Artist by World Knowledge Pictorial. "Ink Passion, Harmony Achieves the Mean" — He believes: The core essence of Chinese culture is the pursuit of harmony and beauty. Throughout many art forms in Chinese culture, "harmony" serves as both content and method, with achieving "the mean" as the ultimate goal. "Zhizhong" (attaining the mean) has thus become the highest realm he aspires to in life. In his creation of calligraphy and painting works, Mr. Yang Zhizhong has always rooted himself deeply in the fertile soil of traditional culture while integrating various artistic styles. He has conducted extensive, in-depth research on oracle bone script, bronze inscriptions, stone drum script, bamboo slips from the Qin and Han dynasties, Han steles, Wei steles, Tang regular script, and other calligraphic styles, absorbing and synthesizing them into a unique personal calligraphic style.
He consistently adheres to copying ancient classic calligraphic models, gradually gaining creative inspiration through detailed study of traditional techniques. In recent years, his innovative works such as pictographic calligraphy, expressive-form calligraphy, and musical calligraphy have been widely loved by collectors. He has thoroughly read and meticulously studied China's classic literary works across dynasties, forming his own unique interpretations. He applies the wisdom of traditional Chinese studies—including Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, traditional Chinese medicine, military strategy, and Tai Chi yin-yang theory—into his artistic creation, health cultivation, and daily life, gradually becoming a practitioner and promoter of traditional Chinese wisdom. He actively participates in charitable auctions and donation events involving his artworks. He devoted significant effort to relief fundraising activities following major disasters such as the May 12, 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and the 2016 super typhoon disaster in Funing, Jiangsu Province. Additionally, he was one of the early participants in the "One Foundation" charity initiated by martial arts film star Jet Li.
