Personal Profile

Sun Tianxi, also known as Qin Chuan Niu,National First-Class Calligrapher,was born in May 1957 in Dongzi Lane, West Street, Heyang County, Shaanxi Province. In March 1973, he began his career in education and, over the past four decades, has cultivated numerous outstanding art talents for the country, provinces, and cities, earning widespread acclaim from all sectors of society. Since childhood, Tianxi has been deeply passionate about painting and calligraphy. Diligent and eager to learn, he devoted himself to studying ancient and modern calligraphic steles and rubbings, starting from tradition and persisting with unwavering dedication for decades, never ceasing his brushwork, thus laying a solid foundation. He has been personally instructed by renowned calligraphers such as Liu Zidu, Fan Zeng, Liu Hongbiao, Lu Zhongnan, Lei Zhenmin, Cai Minji, Zhang Jinghui, Gao Bingshan, An Yongliang, Yan Fangfei, Wang Guosheng, and Wang Derong, through whom he gained profound insight into the essence of calligraphy. He subsequently absorbed widely from diverse sources, integrating and synthesizing them, achieving remarkable progress in his art and gradually developing a unique personal style characterized by a harmonious blend of strength and gentleness, elegance and freedom, vigor and beauty, spontaneous variation between dryness and wetness, and profound power. His works encompass true, cursive, clerical, seal, and running scripts, with particular expertise in running-cursive, double-hooking, and large-scale inscriptions. His creations are appreciated by both connoisseurs and the general public, admired and highly praised by local calligraphers and masters. His works have won numerous awards at international, national, provincial, and municipal levels and have been included in the "Weinan Art Chronicle" and the "Heyang County Annals." Notably, in 2015, he was awarded the Silver Prize in the National Large-Character Calligraphy Competition; his large-character work "Road" was collected by the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and his running-cursive piece "Inscription on the Wall of Xilin Temple" was selected by the China Large-Character Calligraphy Association for exhibition at the International Art Festival in the United States, for which he was honored with the title of International Cultural Ambassador. On April 25, 2016, during the Large-Character Calligraphy Elite Training Program hosted by the Large-Character Calligraphy Committee of the China Society of Social Art, he was awarded the National Large-Character Calligraphy Elite Award. Recently, he was exceptionally invited by the Jiangsu Branch of the China Large-Character Calligraphy Association to participate in the national public welfare calligraphy and painting activity and exhibition titled "Chinese Dream, Passion for Large-Character Calligraphy," where he again received the highest honor (Outstanding Award). In March 2017, after deliberation by the China New Great Wall Organizing Committee, he was specially nominated to be selected and personally inscribed a phrase for the China New Great Wall, permanently engraved for viewing by domestic and international tourists. Over the years, many of his works have been collected by art institutions both within and outside China. He is currently a member of the Large-Character Calligraphy Committee of the China Society of Social Art, a member of the China Large-Character Calligraphers Association, a member of the China Artists Association, a member of the China Hard-Pen Calligraphers Association, an Academician of the China National Painting Research Institute, a Standing Director of the Shaanxi Branch of the China Large-Character Calligraphers Association, a member of the Beijing Large-Character Calligraphers Association, a member of the Shaanxi Hard-Pen Calligraphy Research Society, a Standing Vice-Chairman of the Northwest Calligraphy and Painting Network, a Special-appointed Academician of the Shaanxi Phoenix Calligraphy and Painting Academy,Honorary Chairman of the Weinan City Large-Character Calligraphers Association,Member of the Weinan City Musicians Association, former Vice-Chairman of the Heyang County Calligraphy and Painting Association, former Vice-Chairman of the Heyang County Education Calligraphy and Painting Research Society, a Special Guest Artist of Yinxiang Heyang Calligraphy and Painting Network, and Master of Boyizhai Ink Studio.
