Personal Profile
Wang Yanhui, originally named Wang Yun, styled Yanhui, styled himself Sanshui, born in 1948 in Xunyi County, Shaanxi Province, currently resides in Beijing, where he established the "Wang Yanhui Calligraphy and Painting Studio."
He has loved calligraphy since childhood, began practicing model scripts early with Liu Gongquan's style, then studied the Orchid Pavilion Preface, while also learning from Huang and Zhao's model books, integrating characteristics of Su Shi and Mi Fu. He excels in running-cursive script, with a solemn style, distinct personality, and profound artistic charm.
He persists in combining theoretical research with creative practice, accurately and concisely summarizing the essential principles regarding spirit and form, creation versus flaws, and inheritance versus innovation.
Rooted in the Loess School tradition, absorbing the bold and profound northern Chinese style, he explores paintings unique to the Chang'an School. He is skilled in poetry, lyrics, and prose—deep in meaning, brilliant in expression, and endlessly memorable.
His published works include: "Wang Yanhui's Calligraphic Version of the Preface to the Orchid Pavilion", "Wang Yanhui's Four Classical Essays", "Wang Yanhui Calligraphy Collection: ", "Wang Yanhui Calligraphy Collection: ", and "Wang Yanhui Calligraphy Collection: ", all published by Shaanxi People's Fine Arts Publishing House.
His calligraphy and painting works have repeatedly won awards at major domestic exhibitions and have been exhibited in European and Asian countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. His self-composed poetic calligraphy works have been featured in special reports by the overseas edition of the People's Daily.
