Personal Profile
  Luo Yongjiu, styled Hengzhi, with the art names Nangong Shui and Yunmen Yaoyue, was born in Shaanxi Ankang. He is a virtuous and accomplished artist and recipient of the China Art Lifetime Achievement Award; currently serving as a Special Artist for Chinese State Gifts, National First-Class Artist, Chairman of the Calligraphy Committee at the China Buddhist Art Museum, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Administrative Art Federation’s Administrative Art Association, Senior Registered Teacher of the China Calligraphers Association, Member of the China Couplet Society, Signed Artist for CCTV Education’s “Ink and Wash Danqing” and “Master Class” programs, Vice Chairman of the China Chan Art Calligraphers Association, Member of the Gansu Branch of the China Artists Association, Member of the Gansu Branch of the China Calligraphers Association, Member of the China Hard-Pen Calligraphy Association, Honorary President of the Overseas Cultural Exchange Association for Chinese Culture, Honorary Chairman of the Singapore Art Association, and Academician of the Chinese Culture Research Institute.  
        Deeply devoted to painting and calligraphy, he follows traditional methods with orthodox brushwork. He studies the elegance and grandeur of the “Two Wangs”; the strength and gentleness of Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan; the simplicity, subtlety, and fluidity of Mi Fu; and the graceful, flowing lines of Huai Su. Practicing diligently from dawn till dusk, he absorbs diverse strengths, integrating the essential spirit of traditional Chinese calligraphy into his work, infusing Zen poetry and ink fragrance into every stroke, embedding them deeply within his paintings and calligraphy. He has been awarded military honors three times, recognized dozens of times, and won multiple awards in national painting and calligraphy competitions.
        In December 2014, he participated in the inaugural “Virtuous and Artistic Cup” Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition co-hosted by the China Painters and Calligraphers Exhibition Organizing Committee, the Zhonghua Qingfeng Painting and Calligraphy Association, the China Calligraphers Association, the China Artists Association, and several cultural and artistic groups from central state organs and the PLA headquarters. His ink painting “Dream” won an award and he was conferred the title of “Virtuous and Artistic Artist,” receiving a personal trophy inscribed by Zhang Hai, Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association, with the phrase “Respect Virtue, Embrace Artistry.”          In August 2014, he participated in the “Outstanding Contribution to Human Culture Award Ceremony” held in Thailand. His painting “Six Blessings Diagram” was collected by the Thai Royal Family as a state gift and he was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution to Human Culture Award” and the title of “Lifetime Ambassador of Sino-Thai Friendship” by the Thai Royal Family.         In January 2015, he was invited to attend the award ceremony of the “Global Calligraphy and Painting Masters International Exchange Exhibition Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference” held in Indonesia, where he was honored with the title “Ambassador of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Exchange.” His artworks were collected by Li Shunnan, Chairman of the Indonesian Chinese Art Association, and General Chairman of the Indonesia Huaxia Culture Creation Foundation.         In May 2015, he attended the commemorative activities and peace culture award ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, including the Chinese State Gift Collection Ceremony. His artworks were collected by the Thai Royal Family, Prince Somboon Bhamo, Chairman Luo Zongzheng of the ASEAN Plus Six Trade Committee, and Secretary-General Chen Tiejun of the Thai Senate. His calligraphy “Soul of the Dragon” and ink painting “Three Harmonies Diagram” were collected by the Thailand-China Artists Association and its Chairman Cai Yipi, and he received the “Outstanding Contribution to Peace and Culture Award” on behalf of the Thai Royal Family from Prince Somboon Bhamo.   In November 2015, Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping met with Taiwan’s leader Ma Ying-jeou in Singapore—the first-ever meeting between leaders across the Taiwan Strait in 66 years, a historic milestone in cross-strait relations that attracted global attention. The CCOCA Overseas Cultural Exchange Association for Chinese Culture presented two of Luo Yongjiu’s artworks, “Harmony and Prosperity Diagram,” as state gifts to Singaporean friends, symbolizing the 66th anniversary of prosperity and the historic breakthrough achieved over the past 66 years, while expressing gratitude to all sectors of Singapore for their contributions to peaceful cross-strait relations! The artworks were collected by the Singapore Buddhist Association and Mr. Chen Yifu, Chairman of the Nan’an Guild.   In July 2015, his artworks and personal portrait were officially included in the themed “Chinese Post Album” commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. He was awarded the title “Contemporary Chinese Master Painter and Calligrapher,” and approved by the national postal authority for publication as a “National Icon,” issued globally in limited edition. That same year, his artistic biography was included in the Bing Shen Year publication “Ma Shang Feng Hou—Top 100 Contemporary Chinese Painters and Calligraphers,” featuring a special award postcard honoring him as a “Virtuous and Artistic Artist.”   On January 15, 2016, after evaluation by the State Gift Artist Review Committee, he was officially granted the qualification of “Chinese State Gift Artist,” receiving the official certificate of the People’s Republic of China State Gift and a golden plaque inscribed with “Chinese State Gift Artist” by Ouyang Zhongshi.         On April 3, 2016, he was named one of the “2016 China Good Brand ☆ Most Collectible Artistic Figures,” and his biography and works were included in the “China Good Brand Artistic Figures Ranking.”        On August 16, 2016, his ink painting “Gazing at the Vast Sky” and calligraphic inscription were selected for the New Great Wall Chinese Culture Ranking.         In January 2017, he was invited to participate in CCTV Education’s “Splashing Ink, Chinese Sentiment” 2017 Spring Festival Gala, and was officially appointed as a signed artist for CCTV Education’s “Ink and Wash Danqing” and “Master Class” programs.         In February 2017, he was rated by China Good Brand as “HAOBRAND Brand Influence Artistic Figure” and “Bearer of Outstanding Traditional Chinese Culture,” selected for the “Chinese Dream, Artistic Strength, With You on the Journey” Art Ranking, and awarded a physical emblem and honor certificate for his personal art brand.       On April 10, 2017, his artwork “Harmony and Prosperity Diagram” was presented by the Overseas Cultural Exchange Association for Chinese Culture as a state gift to the Singapore Taoist General Association, and collected by Mr. Chen Tianlai, Chairman of the Singapore Taoist General Association.       On May 13, 2017, he was invited to participate in the “Inheriting the Essence of Ink Wash: Springtime—Artists’ Joint Exhibition,” with four works selected. His ink painting “Water and Clouds in Spring Colors” was collected by the “Ink and Wash Danqing” and “Master Class” sections of CCTV Education.         In September 2017, he was elected “Outstanding Influential Figure in Contemporary Art,” and his artistic achievements, life journey, and masterpieces were featured in news reports by China News, China Financial Times, Market Herald Online, Consumer Daily Online, China.com, Sina.com, Sohu Culture, and other fifteen authoritative mainstream media outlets.         During the 2018 Spring Festival, he meticulously created fifteen paintings and calligraphic works, which were exhibited in the Southeast Asian Chinese New Year Cultural Exchange Tour and fully collected by Chinese community leaders and associations across Southeast Asia.         He was honored with the title of “People’s Artist,” prominently recommended at the First Session of the 13th National People’s Congress and the First Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (2018).         In March 2018, he was elected as an influential calligrapher and painter on the “Huaxia Brand Masters List” under the theme “Establishing Chinese Role Models, Spreading Traditional Chinese Culture,” with his feature documentary widely reported online.         In May 2018, he participated in the large-scale event “Celebrating 40 Years of Reform and Opening Up—Forty Artists, Forty Journeys,” and was selected as a representative of China’s outstanding artists.         In September 2018, he participated in the Fifth “China’s Most Powerful Artist” selection jointly organized by the China Artists Association, the China Calligraphers Association, the China People’s Painters Association, and the Center for Chinese Traditional Culture Development, and was awarded the “China Art Lifetime Achievement Award.”   His artworks have been collected by the National Museum, Chinese national leaders, foreign heads of state, film and television celebrities, and institutions and individuals in Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, the United States, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, as well as domestic academic institutions, public and private organizations.   His artworks and biographical entries have been compiled into more than thirty professional publications, including “Encyclopedia of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy,” “Annual Record of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Figures,” “Chronicles of Cultural Heritage Contributors,” “Complete Collection of Representative Works by Contemporary Chinese and Foreign Artists,” “Collection of Virtuous and Artistic Cup Paintings and Calligraphy,” and “Great Dictionary of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Masters.” His biography and monographs have been promoted by CCTV Network Television, Democracy and Legal System Network, China State Gift Official Website, China Artists Association of Central Government Organs, China Painting and Calligraphy Network, China Calligraphy Network, Xizhi Painting and Calligraphy Newspaper, Calligraphy Newspaper, China News, China.com, China Financial Times, Xinhuanet, Phoenix News, Baidu, NetEase, Sina, and many other media outlets.
