Personal Profile

Dong Guanghui, born in 1956, is from Wu Gong, Shaanxi Province. A first-class calligrapher and national gift artist, he is currently a member of the China Famous Artists Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Beijing Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Academy Academician, Council Member of the China Western Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, Council Member of the China Education Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Vice President of the Baoji Branch of the China National Painting Academy, Member of the Shaanxi Senior Calligraphers Association, Member of the Baoji Calligraphers Association, Member of the Yangling District Calligraphers Association, Member of the Liu Gongquan Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, Member of the Xianyang Calligraphers Association. In 2018, he was appointed as a calligraphy and painting art expert by the Think Tank Expert Committee of the China Industrial Cooperation Association’s National Policy Wisdom Experts. In 2019, he was contracted as an artist by China Collection Network, and the same year was awarded the title of National Gift Artist by Artist Network. He initially studied calligraphy under Master Zhao Mengfu, later apprenticed to Huang Tingjian of the Song Dynasty, and takes Wang Xizhi and Sun Guoting as his models for cursive script. He has devoted particular diligence to copying the steles of Ouyang Xun and produces mostly running script.He pays attention to absorbing their essence, boldly experiments, and gradually developed his own unique calligraphic style,his style is elegant, graceful, and beautiful, combining the fluidity of the letter-style tradition with the grandeur of the stele-style tradition.
