Lei Baishou, pen name Dongfang Long, was born in 1950 in Pucheng, Shaanxi. He graduated from the Chinese Department of Shaanxi Institute of Education and devoted his life to teaching. Since childhood, he has been passionate about calligraphy and has persisted in his practice for six decades, drawing inspiration from ancient masters while embracing contemporary styles, absorbing diverse influences to forge his own unique style. His grand, powerful, vigorous, and free-flowing calligraphic style is widely cherished by the public. His works have won numerous awards in national calligraphy competitions, been included in calligraphy anthologies, and are countless in number among private collections displayed in homes. His study of calligraphy aims to promote Chinese national culture and inherit the art of calligraphy, as well as to cultivate personal character and pursue spiritual fulfillment. Unaffected by worldly concerns, he remains indifferent to fame and fortune, freely wielding his brush and finding joy in life’s relentless pursuit. In recent years, he has integrated qigong into his calligraphy creation, enhancing the aesthetic value of his work; his live calligraphy performances have consistently earned enthusiastic praise from audiences.
