Li Qiang (also known as Li Minqiang), born in April 1969 in Suiping County, Henan Province, currently resides in Xi'an, with the courtesy name Qingxin and the art name Master of Wenbao Studio. He graduated from Northwest University of Political Science and Law in 1992 and further studied at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. He has loved calligraphy, painting, and seal carving since childhood.He is currently Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, Executive Deputy Director of the China Communication Art Institute, Vice President of the Western Art Research Institute of the China Minister and General Calligraphy and Painting Association,Vice President of the Global Chinese Association Art Research Institute,Vice President of the Weinan Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute of the International Federation of Artists,Research Fellow of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Congress System Research Association,Council Member of the Shaanxi Enterprise Integrity Association,Member of the Xi'an Calligraphers Association,President of the Shaanxi Qin-Tang Calligraphy and Painting Art Research Institute,Director of the Xi'an Datang Seal Society,Chairman of Shaanxi Liqiang Art Decoration (Group) Co., Ltd.,National First-Class Artist,Outstanding Entrepreneur and Calligrapher-Painter of Shaanxi Province.
His calligraphy and painting works have been included in more than thirty major reference books, including "Collection of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters," "Dictionary of Famous Chinese Calligraphers and Painters," "Contemporary Chinese Masters of Calligraphy and Painting," "Appreciation of Contemporary Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Art," "Contemporary Famous Calligraphers and Painters of Sanqin," and "Western Stars."
His calligraphy primarily focuses on large seal script, with additional work in clerical, cursive, and other scripts; his ink painting primarily focuses on flowers and birds, with supplementary work in landscapes and figures. He excels in both writing and painting, with fluent brushwork, appealing to both refined and popular tastes, profound symbolism, and harmonious contrasts of dryness, wetness, darkness, lightness, and intensity. His technique combines softness and strength like cotton wrapped around iron. He pioneered internationally the "Color-Ink Calligraphy" method, which has been granted national intellectual property copyright protection. His characters embody five forms: seal, clerical, regular, running, and cursive; his ink expresses five tones: dry, wet, dark, light, and scorched.
He boldly integrates ink techniques used in traditional Chinese painting—such as depicting ink bamboo and ink lotus—into his calligraphy, creating a unique style widely appreciated.
