Yang Yongqing, pen name Huang Yun, art name Mo Tong Wen Dao, was born in 1965 in Xi’an, an ancient capital, into a scholarly family. Influenced by familial tradition, he developed a deep passion for calligraphy and painting from childhood, diligently studying and copying renowned steles of the Tang and Wei dynasties, including those of Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, Cao Quan, Zhang Qian, Yi Ying, and Li Bi. In his early years, he studied under mentors in sketching and oil painting, laying a solid foundation. Later, he received guidance and instruction from his esteemed teacher, Master Xiu Jun, a renowned Chinese printmaker. He has extensively researched traditional techniques while pursuing innovative development, exploring various script styles with particular specialization in clerical script. He has forged a distinctive personal artistic style characterized by weightiness, solidity, grandeur, and spontaneity. Over a hundred of his works have been collected, published in newspapers and periodicals, or engraved on stone tablets and plaques. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphy Art Education Society, Xi’an Artists Association, Xi’an Calligraphers Association, Xi’an International Art City, Shaanxi Chinese Painting Society, Shaanxi Fine Arts Development Foundation, and a contracted calligrapher and painter at Lantai Yipai Network. He is also a member of Shaanxi Dachang’an Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Vice President of Shaanxi Taibai Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Executive Council Member of Shaanxi Shanglin Calligraphy and Painting Academy, Executive Council Member of Shaanxi Shengshi Chang’an Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute, Chairman of the Lefang Branch of the Shaanxi Collectors Association’s Purple Clay Committee, and a member of the Mobile Photography Branch of the Shaanxi Tourism Photographers Association.
