Commentary by Mr. Quan on Liu Weidong’s Calligraphy Works A successful calligraphy work requires impeccable brushwork, ink technique, and compositional structure—all indispensable. Mr. Liu Weidong’s calligraphy features robust and elegant character structures, each meticulously crafted with a harmonious blend of strength and gentleness, spacious and orderly, executed with unwavering precision. As the ancients said: “Writing is the expression of the heart.” The creation of any calligraphy piece inevitably reveals the author’s emotions, tastes, and intentions, whether subtly or overtly. The profound artistic appeal of any outstanding calligraphy stems from its dynamic lines, which reflect the artist’s unique spiritual temperament and rich inner world. Everyone should forge their own path—starting from oneself, advancing from near to far, from shallow to profound. Mr. Liu has grasped the essence of calligraphy; his works draw deeply from ancient traditions while integrating contemporary elements, absorbing widely and synthesizing broadly. I believe that on your personal journey of artistic pursuit, you will continue to advance further and reach higher. Here, I sincerely wish Mr. Liu even greater progress on his calligraphy path! —————— Quan Xijun Quan Xijun, born in 1926, is a Han Chinese from Yantai City, Shandong Province, with a college education.
