Ink and Brush Can Express the Subtlety of Jin Rhythm   Painting Can Express the Zen Style —— Remembering the Famous Calligrapher and Painter Chen Bo        Calligraphy and painting are of the same origin, and their methods are cultivated together. In contemporary calligraphy and painting art, there is a phenomenon where calligraphers do not practice painting, and painters do not write calligraphy, which is a harm to the cultural source of calligraphy and painting being of the same origin. The result is that painting cannot benefit calligraphy, and calligraphy cannot enter painting, and the cultural content of calligraphy and painting continues to shrink. To inherit the cultural character of calligraphy and painting, one must be like the contemporary famous calligrapher and painter Chen Bo, who not only cultivates the elegant taste of Jin rhythm calligraphy but also cultivates the artistic talent of Danqing with Zen rhythm. Only in this way can calligraphy and painting become exquisite, becoming a great achievement in the inheritance of calligraphy and painting culture.
Her calligraphy cultivation has taken a proper path of learning from ancient steles and scrolls. She writes Tang law, with strict rules, and writes Song meaning, with free and unrestrained imagery. Ultimately belonging to the system of the two Wangs, taking Zhongqiu Tie, Lanting Xu, and Kuaxue Shiqing Tie as her model, she persistently studies the scholarly atmosphere of Jin rhythm calligraphy, cultivating the elegant taste of literati calligraphy. Therefore, she can freely express her heart, hold the brush to pursue leisurely clouds, and have ink without obstacles, resonating with Zen rhythm.
Observing her calligraphy, every piece of work is inevitably imbued with the scholarly atmosphere of literati calligraphy, neither impetuous nor harsh, with appropriate extension and contraction, combining strength and softness, and moving the heart with elegance. A piece of "A distant mountain path slopes upward, where white clouds arise, and there are people living there," combines the artistic beauty, posture beauty, and content beauty of calligraphy into a beautiful appreciation, without any flaws, with the subtlety in the turning and shifting, the spiritual quality of brush and ink. Therefore, her cursive script is the revival of the aesthetic charm of the Sanxi Hall collection, with letters at hand and calligraphy formed from the heart! This skillful and natural brushwork is the result of learning from nature, the classic practice of the saying that "there is no object in the world that is not cursive script."
Using calligraphy to enter painting, her paintings have the refined style of literati paintings. She can use accumulated ink to write the bones of mountains and rivers, each stroke strong and firm, standing solid and magnificent. She can also use splashed ink to write the spirit of mountains and rivers, with both form and spirit, and vivid atmosphere. Her paintings have poetry, with the poetic sentiment and artistic beauty of Wang Wei's expressive landscape, pleasing to the eye and worth appreciating. They also have the grand talent of Zhang Daqian's splashed ink landscapes, inviting people to travel in imagination. With a high and distant composition, reaching up to the floating clouds and looking down into the deep valleys, in the lively and free-moving mist and clouds, she writes the concept of emptiness and reality into Zen, gazing at the mountains and rivers, it is indeed the charm of listening to Zen by the wooden door, a mountain and river painting will surely cultivate the Zen interpretation world, entering wisdom from meditation, the extraordinary emotion of ink and water!
The composition method of "one river and two banks" is a philosophical re-creation of Huang Gongwang's expressive "Fu Chun Mountain Residence Map." This bank is real, that bank is divine, my heart awaits passage, emotions reside within, this unique sentiment of communication with the spirit of heaven and earth allows viewers to stay in this image, reluctant to return. Her landscape paintings learn from the methods of Song and Yuan, but she never confines herself to painting landscapes in the study. Traveling ten thousand miles, observing true mountains and rivers, refining the natural appearance of mountains and rivers through visual experience, and cultivating the inner source of the heart. The ink and water spread without dust, then adding light green and elegant colors, it is a refined and elegant scene where color does not hinder ink, and ink does not hinder color, quiet like Zen wind, pure like Zen heart!
Ink and brush can express the subtlety of Jin rhythm, and painting can express the Zen style. Ms. Chen Bo uses the wisdom of contemporary cultural practitioners to completely remove the small elegance of literati paintings, and rebuild the new system of literati painting in the era with the expressive power of ink and water. Expressing feelings through painting, singing through painting, writing the essence of Zen, outputting positive energy of mountains and rivers, the painting is the essence of spirit, and can prove a great masterpiece!
