Wang Yongjun, born in 1970 in Pingdu City, Qingdao, is Vice Chairman of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, a visiting professor at Shandong Business University, a senior academician of the Tokyo China Calligraphy and Painting Academy, a member of the Pingdu City Artists Association, and a council member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Federation. His calligraphy works have been exhibited numerous times at provincial and municipal exhibitions, winning first prize in municipal exhibitions and a special award in the National Workers' Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition.
Wang Yongjun has loved calligraphy since childhood. He studied under the renowned calligrapher Mr. Su Shishu in his early years and later received guidance from numerous domestic calligraphy masters, greatly advancing his art. He gradually developed his own artistic style and achieved significant accomplishments on his artistic journey. He has participated in many national and provincial-level calligraphy exhibitions and won multiple awards. Among these, his calligraphy work "Chu Sai" by Wang Changling received the First Prize for Outstanding Works from China Encyclopedia, "Plum Blossoms Bring Five Blessings" received the First Prize for International Outstanding Works, and he also won the Second Prize for the Agricultural Bank Soul Calligraphy Award.
He is especially skilled in ink painting of plum blossoms, dedicating himself to the creative practice of poetry, calligraphy, and painting centered on plum blossoms. He strives to praise the spirit of "plum blossoms daring to be the first under heaven," upholds the noble character of a gentleman, and infuses his works with more positive social energy. Drawing inspiration from the past to innovate, he inherits traditional Chinese culture, pursues the aesthetic charm of Chinese painting, and has developed a unique artistic style, earning renown across the nation.
Taking the promotion of Chinese plum blossom culture as his mission, he actively engages in artistic practice, praising the pure and noble character of plum blossoms and their spirit of defying frost and snow. With profound artistic insight and exquisite painting skills, he subtly promotes socialist core values through his brushwork. He has published "Collection of Nanling Plum Paintings," "Selected Essays of Nanling Plum," "Handwritten Poetic Inscriptions of Nanling Plum," and "Nanling Plum: Collection of 99 Plum Blossom Ink Paintings." His 18 solo exhibitions focused on plum blossoms have spread the fragrance of plum throughout Beijing, Nanjing, and provinces such as Shanxi, Guangdong, and Hainan.
His large-scale works are collected by numerous government and private institutions, museums, and Chinese embassies abroad, as well as by many celebrities, attracting widespread attention across all sectors.
His works have been featured and收录 in "Collection of Four-Panel Masterpieces of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting," "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Celebrities," "China Calligraphy Art Newspaper," "China Modern Fine Arts Newspaper," and "Contemporary Calligraphy and Painting Encyclopedia."
He has been selected for inclusion in China Encyclopedia's Outstanding Works: "Dictionary of China's Renowned Experts and Scholars," "Fine Collection of China Encyclopedia Outstanding Works," "World Outstanding Experts and Talent Directory," "Who's Who in the World," "Chinese Elite Gala," and "World Biographical Dictionary." His cursive script version of Li Bai's "Departing Early from Baidi City" was exhibited at the Tokyo China Calligraphy and Painting Academy and, in September 2009, he was invited by the Chinese Academy of Sciences as one of the "Hundred Outstanding Calligraphy and Painting Artists" to participate in events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC by patriotic individuals both at home and abroad. He also published the book "Rapid Writing: Components of Chinese Characters," making significant contributions to the study and learning of rapid Chinese writing.
Market Auction Prices of Wang Yongjun's Calligraphy Works:
At the 2013 Beijing Guancheng Chunqiu Auction, one of Wang Yongjun's four-foot running-cursive calligraphy works sold for RMB 28,000.
At a 2014 auction, Wang Yongjun's four-foot running-cursive calligraphy work "Qinyuanchun · Snow" sold for RMB 38,000.
At the 2016 Poly Autumn Auction, a large running-cursive calligraphy piece by Wang Yongjun measuring 212x804 cm sold for RMB 50,000.
At the 4th Poly Shandong Art Auction in 2017, Wang Yongjun's six-foot running-cursive calligraphy piece, inscribed with Zhang Ruoxu's "Spring River Flower Moon Night," sold for RMB 150,000.
