Qi Baotian, male, born in 1957 in Dongping, Tai’an. He enlisted in the military in 1976 and served for 26 years in the PLA Navy’s North Sea Fleet and East Sea Fleet, primarily engaged in political, propaganda, and cultural work within the armed forces. He has conducted extensive research into calligraphy. After retiring from military service with the rank of Navy Colonel and having served as a regimental political commissar, he transitioned to civilian work in Qingdao, continuing to engage in political education, propaganda, and discipline inspection. In his spare time, he is especially passionate about Han-style clerical script (Lishu) and seal script (Zhuanshu), practicing diligently. His calligraphy, characterized by its ancient simplicity and elegant beauty, vigorously promotes traditional Chinese culture and has received acclaim from both the calligraphy community and society at large. He currently serves as a member and deputy secretary-general of the Qingdao Calligraphy, Painting and Seal-Carving Artists Association, and as Honorary Dean of Wencheng Oriental Academy.His clerical and seal script calligraphy works have been published in numerous national newspapers and media outlets and have repeatedly won awards at provincial and municipal calligraphy exhibitions. Notably, his clerical script works “Jiayan Shanxing” (Good Words, Good Deeds), “Jianxian Siqi” (Look to the Virtuous and Emulate Them), and “Yeguang Weiqin” (Great Achievements Come Only Through Diligence), as well as his seal script works “Jingye Lequn” (Dedication to Work and Harmony with Others) and “Qiusu” (Quest), won the “Most Popular Award” at the “Dream Seeking – 2016 First Qingdao Outstanding Folk Art Talents Exhibition.” Many of his works have been collected by calligraphy enthusiasts, earning him the title of “Military Calligraphy Artist.” He has also been included in the Dictionary of Chinese Experts and the 21st Century Talent Database.
