Personal Profile

Sun Yuanfu, style name Yu Xiang, was born in July 1960 in Rizhao City, Shandong Province. He studied under Master Sun Boxiang. From 2006 to 2007, he furthered his studies at the China Academy of Art and the China Calligraphy Institute. He excels in clerical script, running script, and cursive script. He is a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, Vice Chairman and Director of the Creation Committee of the Rizhao Calligraphers Association, President of the Haiqu Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and Chairman of the Donggang District Calligraphers Association. He has participated in the 6th, 7th, and 8th National Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibitions; the 7th and 8th National Exhibition of Calligraphy and Seal Carving by Middle-Aged and Young Artists; the 2nd and 5th National Couplet Calligraphy Exhibitions; won the National Award at the 4th National Couplet Calligraphy Exhibition; received the Third Prize at the 2nd National Running and Cursive Script Exhibition; earned the "Hundred Masters Fine Works Award" at the 2nd and 3rd National Fine Works of Calligraphy Exhibition; participated in the 2nd and 3rd National Standard Script Exhibitions; participated in the 1st National Youth Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition; received a nomination award at the National Calligraphy Lanting Award (Zhengzhou); won Second Prize in the "Xiaolan Cup" National Calligraphy Competition; Second Prize in the "Meidian Cup" National Calligraphy Competition; participated in the "Xizhi Cup" National Calligraphy Competition; won First Prize in the "Ode to Lei Feng" National Calligraphy Exhibition; participated in the 2nd National Avant-Garde Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition; won Third Prize in the "Entering Qinghai" National Calligraphy Competition; and in 2005 was awarded the Contribution Award for Calligraphy Creation by the Shandong Provincial Calligraphers Association.
