Personal Profile
Zhang Xuyong is from Binzhou City, Shandong Province. He graduated from the China Calligraphy and Painting Correspondence University and was formerly a member of the Beijing Calligraphers Association as well as Vice Chairman of the Bincheng District Calligraphers Association in Binzhou. Currently, he is a member of the Construction Bank of China's Painting, Calligraphy and Photography Research Society in Shandong Province, a member of the Binzhou Calligraphers Association, and a member of the Shandong Provincial Calligraphers Association. 
       During his military service in Beijing, he studied calligraphy under Yang Zaichun, Li Lisheng, and others. In 1981, his work titled "Lofty Ideals" was exhibited at the "Exhibition of Calligraphy and Seal Carving of the Entire Army" held at the Chinese Military Museum, and it was published on page four of the PLA Daily on August 1st.
       In 1982, his works "The Way Is Long and Far" and Jia Dao's poem "Seeking the Recluse but Not Meeting Him" were selected for the Art Exhibition of Dual-Use Talents of the Entire Army, displayed at the Chinese Military Museum, and both pieces were collected.
       In 1983, he held a solo exhibition of calligraphy works at the Logistics Department of the Beijing Military Region, and the news along with his works were published in the Beijing Military Region's newspaper Zhan You Bao (Comrade Newspaper).
       In 1984, his works were selected for the Art Exhibition of Dual-Use Talents of the Beijing Military Region and exhibited at the National Art Museum of China.
       In 1985 and 1986, he concurrently served as a calligraphy and mounting instructor at Fengtai District Cultural Center in Beijing.
       In June 1989, he held a personal painting and calligraphy exhibition at the Binzhou Academy of Painting.
       In October 2011, during the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, his calligraphy work won the gold award in the national "Red Classics" Painting, Calligraphy, Photography and Poetry Competition.
       In October 2012, during the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, his calligraphy piece featuring Mao Zedong's poem "The People's Liberation Army Captures Nanjing" won the gold prize in the "Ode to the Military Spirit" Painting, Calligraphy and Art Grand Contest, and he was honored as an "Artistic Figure Who Loves Our Great Wall".
       In July 2013, he won first prize in the "Global Overseas Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition".
       On June 9, 2014, his work was selected for the Guotai Cup Painting and Calligraphy Competition.
       In October 2014, he received the first prize in the ninth staff painting, calligraphy, and photography competition hosted by the Shandong branch of the Construction Bank of China.
       In August 2015, he completed and published the "Three Hundred Poems of Tang Dynasty in Handwritten Script".
       In May 2016, he was appointed as a contracted calligrapher by CCTV China Treasure International Auction.
       In April 2017, during the "30th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of Yi Shou Wen Zhai Newspaper", his artwork received the Outstanding Work Award and was permanently collected.
       In August 2017, he again completed and published the "Three Hundred Ci Poems of Song Dynasty in Handwritten Script".
       On September 8, 2017, he was awarded the title of "Contemporary Master Calligrapher of China" by the China International Philatelic Network, and his works were selected for the limited edition commemorative stamp album titled "Never Forget Why We Started, Keep Moving Forward," issued in anticipation of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. 
       He has been devoted to the art of brush and ink for over thirty years, and his works have been exhibited and awarded numerous times. His artworks have been featured in publications such as the PLA Daily, Comrade Newspaper, Binzhou Daily, Binzhou TV Weekly, and the Construction Bank Newspaper. More than ten collections of painting and calligraphy have included his works. His creations have also been presented as gifts overseas, reaching countries such as the United States and Singapore.
