Personal Profile
Manman, real name Wei Wei, also known as Banban and the Fifth Eccentric. Born in Qinghai in 1976, later grew up in Weifang, Shandong. Admitted to the Chinese Painting Department of Shandong University of Arts in 1995, graduated in 1999, and subsequently furthered studies at the Chinese Painting Research Institute. Currently a member of the Shandong Provincial Artists Association and a council member of the Shandong Calligraphy and Painting Association. Began with ink painting as foundation, once lived as a “Beipiao” (drifter in Beijing), engaged in design and illustration, and is now a middle school teacher locally.
Award-winning Works
In 1999, the work "Emperor of the Great Han" was selected for the Shandong Provincial University Students and Youth Painting Exhibition and won an award.
In 2000, the work "Facing the Sun" was selected for the Shandong Provincial Cross-Century Chinese Painting Masterpiece Exhibition and won an award.
In 2007, the work "Youth" was selected for the National Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Masters Exhibition commemorating the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return and won an award.
In 2007, the work "Memory of the Long March" was selected for the National Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of Mao Zedong and won an award.
In 2007, the work "Peach Blossom Spring" was selected for the Third Chinese Painting Exhibition.
In 2006, the work "Fragrant Barley" was selected for the Provincial Art Exhibition "Entering the New Socialist Countryside" and won an award.
In 2007, the work "Sacred Snow" was selected for the Shandong Provincial Art Exhibition "Ode to Beauty—Celebrating the 17th CPC National Congress" and won an award.
In 2006, held a solo exhibition at the Shandong Provincial Art Museum, which received favorable reviews.
In 2015, the illustration work "First Love" was selected for the First National Illustration Exhibition.
In 2016, was selected for the inaugural "Illustration Young Artistic Talent Cultivation Program" by the China Art Foundation and received training.
In 2017, published "The Art of Books," the award-winning works collection from the inaugural illustration art talent exhibition of the China Art Foundation, published by Jilin Fine Arts Publishing House.
Currently primarily engaged in research on illustration art, especially in the direction of watercolor illustration, and may in the future move closer toward media animation.
