Liu Dawei, born in 1945, is originally from Zhucheng, Shandong. He graduated from the Art Department of Inner Mongolia Normal University in 1968, and from the Graduate Class of the Chinese Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. Currently, he serves as Professor and Chair of the Art Department at the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art, Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chairman of the China Artists Association, President of the International Association of Plastic Arts under UNESCO, and Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He is also an Honorary Member of the 10th Session of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles.
Major works include: "Buryat Wedding," "Young Eagle," "Cub Lion," "Zhang Huazhuang Composes a New Melody," "Millet Plus Rifles," "On the Desert," "Under the Sunlight," "The Nation on Horseback," "Evening Breeze," "The Glorious Path," "Wedding on the Pamir Plateau," "Songs on the Grassland," "Returning from the Bazaar," "Servant of the People," "Snow Line," "Distant Mountains," and "Living Beings of the Snow Region." Published works include: "Techniques of Freehand Figure Painting," "Liu Dawei Sketches," "Liu Dawei Collection," "Liu Dawei Small Works Collection," "Liu Dawei Watercolor Works," and "Epic and Pastoral Song—Liu Dawei Collection." His works have frequently participated in major domestic exhibitions and won awards, and have been exhibited in Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, France, and regions including Hong Kong and Taiwan.
