Li Kuchan (1899–1983), male, born into a poor family. A modern calligrapher-painter and art educator. Originally named Li Yingjie, later changed his name to Ying, with the courtesy name Ligong. Native of Shandong Gaotang. In 1923, he became a disciple of Qi Baishi. He once served as professor at Hangzhou Art College and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, council member of the China Artists Association, and committee member of the Chinese Painting Research Institute. Specialized in painting flowers, birds, and eagles; in his later years, he often created large-scale panoramic screens. Representative works include: “Lotus in Full Bloom,” “Group of Eagles,” “Pine and Eagle,” “Orchid and Bamboo,” “Snowscape on a Clear Day,” and “Waterfowl.” In 1978, “Li Kuchan Painting Collection” was published.  Li Kuchan (1899–1983), master of modern Chinese freehand-style flower-and-bird painting and art educator, originally named Li Yingjie or Li Ying, with the courtesy names Chaosan and Ligong. Born into a poor peasant family in Gaotang County, Shandong Province, he was immersed in the traditional culture of his hometown since childhood and embarked on his artistic journey.
