Personal Profile

Wang Bin, whose ancestral home is Gaotang County in Shandong Province—the hometown of the master of traditional Chinese painting, Mr. Li Kuchan—was born in October 1967. He began copying ancient stele inscriptions and studying calligraphy at the age of 10, excelling in regular script and running script. He also has a passion for cursive script and large-character calligraphy, while practicing seal carving and traditional Chinese painting simultaneously. His regular script is as neat and orderly as a ceremonial guard, with strokes as sharp as if carved by knife or axe; his running and cursive scripts flow like clouds and water; his large-character calligraphy is grand and majestic. In his study of calligraphy, he does not confine himself to ancient steles or predecessors’ works, but has developed his own independent calligraphic style while continuously learning and improving.
