 Personal Profile

Liu Zhongyang, styled Haoran, and known as Shan Hong Hermit, is a calligrapher and free poet. He is currently a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, a member of the China International Artists Association, Honorary Chairman of Shandong Province, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Research Association, Vice President of the China Huaxia Wanli Calligraphers and Painters Association, and Academician of the Wang Xizhi Academy of Calligraphy and Painting.
Liu Zhongyang was born in 1953 in Yantai City, Shandong. He has loved calligraphy since childhood. On his journey of studying calligraphy, Liu Zhongyang admired ancient masters, practiced copying classical works to comprehend their essence, and absorbed strengths from various schools: he studied the "Two Wangs" to capture their classical elegance, heroic grace, and delicate beauty; studied Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan to embrace their balance of strength and suppleness and profound brushwork; studied Mi Fu to learn his concise, elegant, and freely flowing brushstrokes with graceful coherence; and studied Wang Duo and Huaisu to absorb the beauty of their smooth, rhythmic lines and dynamically structured compositions. He practiced diligently through the hottest summer days and coldest winter nights, persisting unremittingly for years. The traditional essence of Chinese calligraphy has deeply permeated his blood. He also delves into the spirit and character hidden behind the brushstrokes of great calligraphers, as well as the reflections of their inner souls revealed between strokes, continuously absorbing their essence and transforming it into his own creative language.
Mr. Liu Zhongyang has participated in multiple joint exhibitions organized by the Ministry of Culture and won awards; many of his works have been collected by renowned domestic and international figures and leaders. He has also been honored with titles such as "News Figure of Chinese Artists," "Image Ambassador of Chinese Artists," "One of China's 100 Outstanding Artists," and "Image Ambassador of 30 Contemporary News Artists." In 2014, he was invited to participate in the Art Exchange Exhibition Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of China-France Diplomatic Relations and won the First Prize.
