Qi Rushan: Pen name: Rushan, born in 1963 in Shanghai.Native of Sishui County, Shandong Province. Passionate about painting and calligraphy since childhood, he began studying landscape and bird-and-flower painting in the early 1980s under masters such as Zhang Xuefu and Wang Yibao. Later, he became a disciple of Master Shi Yan Nian (artist Wang Feng), China's foremost Buddhist monk painter, specializing in meticulous-style Zen painting.
In pursuit of Zen art, he spent his spare time studying extensive Buddhist literature and examining albums by renowned Zen artists throughout history. He invested all his savings into painting materials and books. Over the years, he accompanied Master Yan Nian on travels across the country, visiting many famous temples, ancient monasteries, and painting academies for study and pilgrimage. He has copied numerous classical Tang and Song dynasty masterpieces of meticulous bird-and-flower paintings and Buddhist figure paintings, building a solid foundation in traditional techniques.
In recent years, through persistent immersion in Buddhist holy sites, drawing nourishment from authentic Buddhist culture, he has gradually developed a unique Zen painting style characterized by self-awareness, enlightenment, solemnity, and deep reverence. His works have been frequently exhibited in Buddhist cultural and art exhibitions across mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, winning multiple awards. His piece "Samsara" received an excellence award at the exhibition of the 4th World Buddhist Forum held along the "Silk Road."
He is currently a member of the People's Artists Association, a painter at the Yan Nian Zen Art Center, a National First-Class Painter, and an art consultant for Eastern Art World.
