Personal Profile
Li Yunkun, courtesy name: Zuimozhai, is from Juancheng County, Shandong, a member of the Shandong Provincial Calligraphy and Engraving Artists Association and the Jinan Calligraphy Association of Shandong Province. Born in November 1965, he has been passionate about calligraphy since childhood, drawing nourishment from ancient stele inscriptions and calligraphy models, widely absorbing and learning from diverse sources, adhering to tradition without being bound by it, and practicing calligraphy diligently without interruption. His studies cover a broad range: regular script began with Liu Gongquan, later learning from Yan Zhenqing and Ouyang Xun; small regular script from the Two Wangs; running script from the Sacred Teaching Preface and Orchid Pavilion Preface; clerical script from the Zhang Qian Stele, Shi Chen Stele, Cao Quan Stele, and Liqi Stele—integrating and absorbing widely, all for the purpose of expressing his inner spirit, unconcerned with fame or failure. His family heritage is long-standing, his artistry is imbued with emotion; only by enlightening the world and illuminating people can one’s art be called enduring! In 1985, he graduated from the Calligraphy Department of China Correspondence University of Painting and Calligraphy. During his studies, he received guidance from renowned calligraphers such as Ouyang Zhongshi, Lan Yusong, Chen Gengqiao, and Zhu Xueda. His works have been selected for national touring exhibitions across five provinces and one municipality, as well as provincial and municipal calligraphy exhibitions, winning numerous awards. In 2011, he won the First Prize in the Shandong Provincial Retirees System Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2012, he received the Gold Award in the “Ode to the Motherland” National Calligraphy, Painting, Photography, and Poetry Competition and was honored with the title of “Contemporary Outstanding Artist Promoting Traditional Culture.” From 2014 to 2017, he consecutively received Special Awards in the Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Retirees System Calligraphy and Painting Competitions. In recent years, he has actively participated in calligraphy exhibitions and brush gatherings across the country; his works have been frequently published in the Shandong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission’s publication “Retiree Literary Collection,” and have received guidance and recognition from senior calligraphers. His works strive for innovation based on tradition, forming his own unique artistic style.
