Song Gang, native of Xiaohong, Haiyangsuo, Rushan, Shandong, born in 1962, pseudonym Fengnian, styled Xiaoming, also known as “Ink Treasure Fragrance” and “Master of Ink Treasure Studio,” and “Yile Hermit.” Member of the China Artists Association, National First-Class Artist, People’s Artist, Mao-style Calligrapher, CCTV Journalist, Vice President of Beijing Xuanhe Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute and President of its Weihai Branch, Academician of China Nationalities Painting Academy, Art Advisor of Global (Beijing) Art Network, Art Advisor of Hongqi Piaopiao Calligraphy and Painting Academy Haiyang Creation Base. Ambassador for Chinese Cultural Peace, Ambassador for Oriental Chu Shuai Charity, Honorary Doctor, President of Oriental Chu Shuai Charity Foundation Weihai Branch, Invited Calligrapher and Painter for the Two Sessions of the CPC, Chairman of the Weihai Branch of China Mao Calligraphy Association, President of Yan Zhao Calligraphy and Painting Weihai Research Institute. Held seven solo exhibitions, edited and published three specialized calligraphy and painting monographs. His works are included in the issued nationwide and in the Contemporary Celebrities Chronicles. His works are collected by the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Tiananmen, CCTV, and domestic and international friends. Won twelve gold, first, and second prizes in national-level calligraphy and painting competitions. In 2012, during the large-scale calligraphy and painting event commemorating the 114th anniversary of Comrade Liu Shaoqi’s birth, his work “The Sea Embraces All Rivers” won the Gold Prize and received the “Outstanding Contribution Achievement Award in Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Art.” In 2012, he was awarded the titles of “Ambassador for Chinese Cultural Peace” and “World Peace Artist.” In 2013, “Model of an Era” won the First Prize and he was conferred the honorary titles of “Outstanding Cultural Inheritor Touching China” and “One Hundred Outstanding Cultural Figures Touching China.” His works were included in the magazine “Cultural Figures” and collected by the President of Yugoslavia. In 2013, his calligraphy work “The Long March” won the First Prize in the National Calligraphy Invitational Competition commemorating the 64th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, and was included in the “Series of Outstanding Cultural Figures.” In 2013, his print “Mao Zedong” won the First Prize in the Third China Cultural Peace Prize Calligraphy and Painting Competition. In 2013, his calligraphy “Boundless Blessings” won the National Second Prize and was included in “Contemporary Chinese Celebrities Chronicles.” In 2013, “Ink Treasure Fragrance,” personally inscribed by Mr. Song Cangran, was issued nationwide. In 2014, his oil painting “Mao Zedong Going to Anyuan” won the First Prize in the National Calligraphy and Painting Invitational Competition commemorating the 120th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth; the work was collected by the Tiananmen Management Office and he was awarded the title of “Most Promising Newcomer in Chinese Great Figures’ Art.” In 2014, “Peony Symbolizing Wealth and Auspiciousness” and “Chairman Mao in Northern Shaanxi” were collected by the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. In 2014, the “Chinese Famous Painters” series—Song Gang Album, personally inscribed by Mr. Liu Dawei, President of the China Artists Association, was issued nationwide. (Patent No.: 0091) In 2015, he held three solo exhibitions. In 2016, the long scroll “Hundred Roosters” won the Gold Prize at the Weihai Senior Science and Technology Association Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition. In 2017, his traditional Chinese paintings “Longevity,” “Peony of Wealth and Honor,” “Premier Zhou,” and “Moonlight over Lotus Pond” were collected by the renowned historian, litterateur, philologist, writer, poet, seal engraver, calligrapher, painter, author of “General Discussion on Chinese Calligraphy History,” former editor-in-chief of China Children’s Daily, and junior fellow apprentice of Sun Qifeng—Master Guo Heng.  In 2017, he participated in the National Mao-style Calligraphy Touring Exhibition in Cangzhou City. In 2017, he won the Third Prize in the Taishan Cup National Calligraphy and Painting Invitational Competition. In 2017, he was appointed as a Lifetime Academician by the Hunan Provincial Red Culture Research Institute. In 2017, he received the honorary titles of Ambassador and Honorary Doctor of China Oriental Chu Shuai. In 2017, he received the “Golden Luban Cup” Excellence Award (the highest award). 2017 In 2017, his work “Peony Painting” won the Grand Prize at the “Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Weihai City’s Establishment” Calligraphy, Painting and Photography Exhibition organized by the Weihai Senior Science and Technology Association. In 2018, his works “Ode to Snow” and the traditional Chinese painting “The Great Wall” were collected by the Xuanhe Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute. In 2018, he received the title of “People’s Artist” and the honorary title of “Meritorious Artist of the 40 Years of Reform and Opening-up.” In 2018, he participated in the editorial work of the Fifth Revision of the “Siku Quanshu,” a national first-class project, responsible for the compilation and revision work of the Shandong group.   In 2018, the “Song Gang Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition,” jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, the General Administration of Press and Publication, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, and the Beijing Municipal Government, opened at the Beijing International Convention and Exhibition Center. His works were collected by Ambassador Ma Zhixue, People’s Artist Liu Dagang, and many other celebrities and institutions in Beijing. In 2018, his work “Zen Tea in Harmony” won the First Prize at the “Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Reform and Opening-up and the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Science and Technology Association” Calligraphy, Painting and Photography Exhibition organized by the Weihai Senior Science and Technology Association. In 2018, his works were collected by Guo Yongli, judge of CCTV’s “Avenue of Stars,” and famous singers Xiao Wenli, Zhao Hongqi, Yangzong Zhuoma, and Xiao Xiangyu. In 2019, his Mao-style calligraphy “The Long March” was collected by Yan Zhentang, Chairman of the China Collectors Association and the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.
