“A flick of the finger startles thunder and lightning; a stroke of the brush stirs wind and clouds.” Master Liu Luoyi has been passionate about calligraphy since childhood, initially specializing in hard-pen cursive script, later transitioning to soft-brush calligraphy. Over more than 30 years of dedicated artistic practice, he has absorbed the strengths of many schools, studied ancient techniques without being confined by them, and steadfastly followed his own path. Maintaining a calm and serene mindset, he has never ceased practicing brushwork, sailing freely in the ocean of art. His continuously explored and innovatively pursued works include sketches, realistic portrayals demonstrating mastery of form, expressive and imaginative romantic expressions; as well as pure, elegant depictions of nature’s beauty. His running and cursive scripts are free from vulgar influences, brimming with artistic charm and profound depth.
Master Liu Luoyi has been interested in metaphysics since childhood. Beginning in 1995, he initially studied Qigong, later following Tibetan Buddhist masters such as Angjiang Zhaxi Rinpoche, Dorje Baden Kanzhi, Jiayong Luozhu, and others to study Vajrayana Buddhism. He has made multiple retreats to Mount Wutai for intensive practice, where he formed a karmic connection with Master Huizhen of the Daoist Sanxiao Sect, who entrusted him with leadership of the sect as its 49th-generation patriarch, to propagate Daoist teachings and compassionately guide all sentient beings. That same year, he also studied Longhu Mountain Celestial Master Talismans and esoteric Zhengyi Daoist teachings under Grandmaster Qiu Yusong. Since ancient times, Buddhism and Daoism have been one family; great masters of both traditions have selflessly transmitted various teachings to Master Liu Luoyi, benefiting him for life. Master Liu Luoyi believes: Daoist methods are not equivalent to magical techniques. Street performers use magical techniques but do not understand that magical techniques and Daoist methods belong to entirely different levels! Those who study only magical techniques without learning the Great Dao or practicing virtue will forever remain low-level street performers; without Dao, magical techniques lose efficacy, ultimately descending into charlatanism and inevitably suffering the fate of “Five Deficiencies and Three Shortcomings.” Similarly, in Buddhism, one must practice wholeheartedly, constantly abiding in a state of emptiness and stillness, vigilantly observing one’s thoughts without being swayed by external conditions—living through practice and practicing through life… integrating Buddhist and Daoist teachings into daily life, practicing earnestly and verifying through experience, benefiting countless sentient beings.
