 Personal Profile

Sun Jianping, styled Motong, with his studio named "Motong Calligraphy Studio," was born in Jinan in 1959. He is currently a member of the Shandong Provincial Calligraphers Association, a member of the Jinan City Calligraphers Association, an academician of the Shandong Oriental Calligraphy and Painting Academy, an academician of the Shandong Quehua Calligraphy and Painting Academy, and Vice President of the Jinan Sunshine Calligraphy and Painting Academy. Endowed with innate talent, he has loved calligraphy since childhood. His early calligraphy studies began with Yan and Liu styles, later tracing back to the Two Wangs, Wei steles, and Han clerical scripts, with a particular fondness for small regular script. Drawing widely from various masters and integrating their strengths, his calligraphic skills have matured over time, gradually forming an artistic style characterized by unrestrained elegance and firm, effortless strokes. In recent years, his calligraphy works have frequently participated in and won awards at national, provincial, and municipal professional calligraphy and painting exhibitions. Many of his fine works have been included in collections and presented as gifts to friends both domestically and internationally; numerous pieces are treasured by collectors. His small regular script works, such as the "Heart Sutra," "Great Compassion Mantra," "Tao Te Ching," "Analects of Confucius," and long scrolls of Mao Zedong’s poetry, are especially beloved by a wide circle of friends.
