Wang Zaitian, styled Longde, also styled Baiding, and known by the sobriquets Gengyan Mountain Hermit, Master of Baimai Spring, and Ink Spring Guest, was born in Jinan in 1950. He is currently an academician of the Shandong Shanzhe Culture Research Institute, a member of the Shandong Couplet Association, and a member of the Jinan Calligraphers Association. Passionate about calligraphy since childhood, he initially studied under the Confucian scholar Mr. Wang He. For decades, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to practicing calligraphy, never ceasing regardless of weather or season, gradually gaining insight and entering a state of excellence. His calligraphy works have been exhibited in the First China Wang Xizhi Calligraphy Art (Running and Cursive Script) Exhibition, won First Prize in Calligraphy at the 2010 First Xinghai Cup National Calligraphy and Painting Competition commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, and were selected for exhibition at the 2013 National Harmonious Community Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition. His short essay “Spirit and Integrity” has been included in Baidu Wenku and subsequently reprinted by websites such as Great Wall Net and Docin.
