Personal Profile
Wang Lianqiang, pen name Ruogu, born in August 1963, originally from Shandong, holds a university education. He is currently an Outstanding Artist of China's New Great Wall, a National First-Class Fine Artist, and a National Advanced Worker in Calligraphy and Painting. Influenced by his grandfather, he developed a passion for calligraphy and painting since childhood. Thanks to the moral guidance and effective parenting of his strict father and kind mother, he was ambitious and academically excellent even as a schoolboy. During his youth, he extensively studied and devoted himself to Tang Dynasty regular script; in painting, he deeply grounded himself in sketching, life drawing, portraiture, and realism. He also meticulously researched literature, music, and theories of calligraphy and painting, absorbing broad nourishment that laid a solid foundation for the formation of his literati-style calligraphy and painting in middle age.
On June 20–21, 2015, the CCTV Discovery Journey Channel’s program “Discover China” successfully completed a two-day special documentary filming titled “On the Road of Art.”
At the 2015 National Temple Culture Summit Forum and Calligraphy & Painting Event, his work “Bamboo Rhythm and Lotus Sentiment” won the Golden Creation Award. In the same year, he was honored as a National Advanced Worker in Calligraphy and Painting for 2015 and received the award on January 9, 2016, at the Beijing Great Hall of the People. He was awarded the 2016 China Good Brand Art Personality List – Brand Influence Innovative Artist, the China Great Wall Culture Award; in 2017, he was recognized as one of China’s Most Influential Artists; in June 2018, he was interviewed by “Cross-Strait Culture” and honored as a 2018 China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Model Figure.        
In January 2019, he was conferred the honorary title of Ambassador of Love and Inheritance Public Welfare Campaign.
In March 2019, he was awarded the honorary title of “People’s Artist” as a key recommendation during the National Two Sessions, and was reported by the “People’s Representative Newspaper.”
In April 2019, he participated in the event “Belt and Road: Chinese Brands in Action” and was interviewed by CCTV News Center.
In May 2019, his works were selected for the 14th China Beijing International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo.
In June 2019, his works were published in the limited-edition commemorative stamp album celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, earning him the title of China’s Art Vanguard Role Model.
In mid-June 2019, he was invited to attend the Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Celebrating the 98th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China.
At the end of June 2019, his works were featured in the special issue “Monument,” published by “Chinese” Magazine for the Global Chinese Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC.
In August 2019, he was interviewed by China Education Television’s “Ink and Wash” program team and joined the Ink and Wash Painting Academy.
In August 2019, he was invited to participate in the 22nd Beijing International Art Expo.
At the end of August 2019, he was appointed Director of the Calligraphy and Painting Department at Zhirui Cultural Creative Park.
In October 2019, he was honored as a Chinese National Ceremony Gift Artist.
