Personal Profile
Lu Wei was born in 1974 in Lanling County, Shandong Province. He is currently a member of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, a director of the Shandong Collectors Association, a member of the Linyi Municipal Artists Association, a member of the Linyi Municipal Calligraphers Association, and Vice President of the Yimeng Landscape Painting Research Institute.
Inheriting a family tradition of art, he has loved calligraphy and painting since childhood; to this day, many of his early doodles still remain on the walls of his family’s old house. After beginning his career, he developed a passion for collecting, encompassing items such as exotic stones, root carvings, jade artifacts, calligraphy and paintings, and bronze ware. Through continuous learning and accumulation, he came to understand that collecting is a process of appreciating wisdom and creativity, gradually developing considerable connoisseurship and deriving endless pleasure from it. As time passed and his personal experience deepened—especially through close interactions with renowned calligraphy and painting masters—he gained profound insight into the vast and profound essence of calligraphic and painterly art, as well as the deep inner cultivation of his teachers. His collecting interests gradually shifted toward calligraphy and painting. In 2000, he met the renowned calligrapher Mr. Xu Shuchao, under whom he studied for over a decade, deeply comprehending brush techniques and ink methods, thus gaining entry into the profound realm of calligraphic art and broadening his artistic vision. In daily study, he continually absorbed his teacher’s teachings on the shared origins of calligraphy and painting, learning to perceive calligraphic brushwork and flavor within paintings, and gradually began experimenting with applying calligraphic brush techniques to his own painting creations. Later, he studied under the landscape master Mr. Wang Lihe, specializing in traditional Chinese landscape painting, tracing artistic traditions and exploring the inner thoughts of past masters to grasp the charm of classical brush and ink. For several years, he accompanied his teacher on field trips to China’s famous mountains and rivers, seeking to reconstruct and express nature in new artistic contexts. He has gradually emerged as an outstanding representative of the “Lyrical Yimeng” painting school. For twenty years, he has maintained personal integrity, persevered with determination, worked diligently day and night without rest, drawn inspiration from nature externally, and expressed his profound inner emotions internally. His artistic style in calligraphy and painting, beyond reflecting his innate talent, also manifests a powerful spirit and boldness!
His works have been selected multiple times for provincial and municipal exhibitions and have received high recognition from senior artists and collectors in the field, demonstrating significant potential for collection.
