Liu Junshan, born in 1944 in Zhaoyuan, Shandong, with the courtesy name Zimin and alternative pseudonym Wutang Jushi, is a contemporary design artist and First-Class Fine Artist, member of the China Arts and Crafts Association, Outstanding Contribution Artist in the New China Literary and Art Circles, Academic Committee Member of the Traditional Chinese Art Appraisal and Evaluation Committee, Researcher at the World Culture and Art Research Center, Honorary Lifetime President of the Songzhuang International Academy of Painting at the Oriental Academy of Art, Honorary Doctor of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts [1], Senior Calligraphy and Painting Consultant of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House, and recipient of the Confucius Medal of the 70th Anniversary Art Award of the People’s Republic of China. Since childhood, Liu Junshan has been deeply fond of painting. In 1960, he studied decorative arts under Professor Lei Guiyuan from the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts and watercolor painter Mr. Wang Jiao, later engaging in decorative design work. He has designed interior decorations multiple times for state guest reception venues, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central Military Commission, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and the Great Hall of the People, and is included in the Dictionary of Contemporary Design Artists. He excels in classical figures and traditional landscapes; representative works include “The Sage Corrects His Mistakes,” “Su Wu Tending Sheep,” “Night Reading of Spring and Autumn Annals,” “Zhong Kui,” and “Lofty Mountains, Profound Dao.” In his creations, he absorbs the essence of folk art, emphasizes tradition while integrating modern colors—rich, elegant, and magnificent—breathing new life into traditional painting. He has successively published books including Selected Works of Chinese Fine Arts, Chinese Collection Expo, Encyclopedia of Chinese Calligraphers and Painters, Six Great Masters of Chinese Art, Three Great Masters of People’s Calligraphy and Painting, and Grand Panorama of Masters and Schools in Contemporary Chinese Painting and Calligraphy.
