 Personal Profile
Wu Qingxi, styled "Wei-Jin Studio Master," born in 1977, is a native of Linyi, Shandong. He currently serves as a member of the Shandong Calligraphers Association, member of the Shandong Youth Calligraphers Association, director of the Linyi Wang Xizhi Research Society, founder of the Shandong Lanling Painting and Calligraphy Collection and Exchange Platform, and founder of the Linyi Wei-Jin Studio Calligraphy Education Institution.
Born in the hometown of the Sage of Calligraphy, he is imbued with profound cultural heritage from birth. Since childhood, he has devoted himself to studying calligraphy, quietly absorbing the essence of classical stele inscriptions and masterpieces. He began with Tang dynasty regular script, meticulously copying and creating works based on renowned models by Chu Suiliang, Yu Shinan, and Ouyang Xun. Later, he pursued the study of Wei-Jin dynasty calligraphic masterpieces and developed a special fondness for Northern Stele-style regular script. With his exceptional ability to absorb and assimilate traditional Chinese calligraphic art, he continuously draws upon the structural strength and spiritual essence of ancient masters, practicing diligently and moving freely across styles.
Each character is a world; each stroke embodies spirit. His works are disciplined yet never rigid, skillful yet never slick, exuding throughout an elegant and expansive aura. At the same time, he does not confine himself to ancient conventions or traditional forms—his brushstrokes, character structures, compositions, and layouts emerge effortlessly, varied and dynamic, executed with refreshing clarity and remarkable mastery. For him, calligraphy reveals the Dao: what flows between his brush and ink is not merely Chinese characters combining square and round forms with rustic innocence, but also reflects the unyielding moral integrity and life ethos cultivated by Chinese literati over millennia. Each day, beneath a solitary lamp, with a pool of aged ink, a goat-hair brush, and a floor scattered with discarded drafts, the interplay of black and white simplifies his colorful life and consumes his irreplaceable youth. Yet, through each piece, he articulates his profound understanding and deep affection for Wei Stele script, revealing transcendent cultural depth. One can almost immediately perceive his steady, breath-held concentration and his unrestrained, open expressiveness. Heavy characters, light brush; broad mind, tight hand. The rich, dark ink displays a grand and dignified presence.
