Personal Profile
Liu Changrong, female, born in July 1972, is from Lanling, Shandong. She is currently a member of the Shandong Provincial Artists Association and the Linyi Municipal Artists Association.
Her hometown lies beside the picturesque Huibao Lake and in the ancestral land of Kuang Heng. Nurtured by nature since childhood, she developed a deep passion for painting and calligraphy, taking up her brush to depict the mountains, waters, plants, birds, insects, and fish of her homeland. She fully immerses herself in the misty landscapes of her native region, cultivating a personal artistic style characterized by “expressing emotion through objects, blending reality with meaning.” Inspired by Kuang Heng’s spirit of “stealing light through a wall,” she forged a tenacious character, persistently pursuing excellence in the vast ocean of painting with meticulous care and unwavering dedication.        In recent years, she has studied under masters Tian Guoqing, Fan Fengkun, and Chen Ning, and has participated multiple times in training and advanced study courses organized by the Shandong Provincial Artists Association. Her painting skills have steadily matured and refined. The natural subjects she portrays are pure, vivid, elegant in style, and brimming with vitality—viewers can sense how she quietly wanders, in tranquil spirit, through the mountains, forests, flowers, grasses, and streams of her homeland…
Liu Changrong excels particularly in copying classical paintings, deeply comprehending traditional Chinese painting techniques. Through careful study of original works, she memorizes their brushwork and compositional structures, freeing herself from the constraints of mere physical resemblance to pursue spiritual likeness, truly integrating the essence of masterpieces into her own creative thinking. Moreover, by copying ancient paintings, she absorbs the quintessence of ancient masters, synthesizing and refining diverse techniques and methods—building upon tradition while incorporating strengths from many schools and continuously infusing contemporary spirit.
In her meticulous bird-and-flower paintings, Liu Changrong emphasizes the integration of freehand expression. Her works possess both the refined brilliance of traditional meticulous painting and the grand, expansive atmosphere of modern meticulous painting. Her use of color is bright and lively—vibrant yet never vulgar, subtle yet never dull. Every vein of a leaf, every delicate blossom, captures myriad expressions. Appreciating her works is akin to listening to a symphony of wind, string, and bamboo instruments, evoking her ode to nature, celebration of life, and lyrical praise of beauty and love.
In her freehand bird-and-flower paintings, Liu Changrong primarily employs the “meticulous-in-freehand” technique, emphasizing spiritual likeness over strict physical resemblance. Her forms are grounded in realism, while her brushwork prioritizes expressive freedom. In terms of expression, ink dominates, color serves as complement; dotting and staining take precedence over outlining; minimalism triumphs over complexity; vigorous brushstrokes and lively ink washes replace fine-line delineation; layered dotting techniques substitute for gradual tonal gradations. Her ink flows luxuriantly yet remains moist and rich—rooted in traditional brush-and-ink foundations while satisfying modern aesthetic sensibilities, achieving excellence in color, light, form, and rhythm. The birds and flowers she paints combine motion and stillness, appearing fresh and natural, as if the viewer were standing right within the scene.
She tirelessly cultivates the fertile soil of Chinese painting, constructing a beautiful spiritual homeland. Through diligent artistic exploration, she has harvested abundant fruits of wisdom.
